Im assuming that if everything you spent on LSU went up 25% next yr you'd be fine with it.. thats the attitude you have in these posts.
I certainly would not be on a message board complaining about it. You either pay it or you don't. It is that simple. It is all about supply and demand. As long as the people who stop paying are a smaller fraction than the increase in price, LSU will not back down. Why should I expect them to do so? It is and will forever be about money. That is a fact. As a tax payer who funds LSU, I would expect them to make as much profit as possible. If they have decided that parking fees will help them reach that goal, then by all means they should enact those fees.

Next year it's gonna be really bad for the non conference home games.

And just think: LSU will not always have 10 win seasons..
shite, this is only the 11th in the history of lau.
What happens if les or future coach have a 7-5 season again? 6-6?

You do not fund a single penny to the Athletic Department which will receive 100% of these new funds.

Huge crowds for huge games benefits our team.. you understand that dont you?
How does anything more than a full house benefit the team? The stadium only seats so many.
I'm not advocating less people on campus. Just trying to make a point that it costs a LOT MORE money to host as many as LSU sees on some days. AND, if those "fans" only come to take up parking and throw a TV party, it cuts WAY into the available parking for people who would like to attend the game. So, if you want to throw a party for 20 plus people and take up several parking spots with your vehicles and trailers, be prepared to pay for that "privilege".

There are what 30,000+ people at every game that don't have tickets yet use all the facilities and generate tons of trash ?
I say it's about time they start paying something.

Merchandise sales, for starters.
And I'd imagine a large number of these individuals who are outside the game watching at a tailgate are somewhere on that TAF list waiting.

We all agree. But not to the tune of $600+ dollars a season and not with the pending logistical nightmare about to occur.

From someone who watches the majrity of games outside this is bull shite.
For the one or two biggest gamesw of the year, maybe... 30k?

My point is western kentucky will be poorly attended, less concession stand money for lsu.
Less tailgating means less money for local baton rouge economy.
I guess we'll see, but I really don't think it will have that big of an impact. I seriously doubt parking fees mean attendance for scrub games falls by 10,000 or more. As you noted it was bad already for ULM. If the team sucks that would have a far bigger impact.

So what do you suggest ? A tailgating pass ?

So, the same people that are bitching about a $20-40 parking pass are lighting up the registers at the Tiger Gift Shop?? Oh, and they are waiting for a chance to buy season tickets????
That's rich!!
I would like to hear a qualified economist comment on the economic impact of the LSU parking fees on EBR businesses in 2011. I think it might be a bit less than some think.

i bet it would be a lot less.

- $10 for Hayfield Lots
- $20 for Highland Lots
- $50 annually for a trailer
Allow the purchase of these passes to be done online for the season and designate an entrance into these lots for them.
The remaining can be sold on gameday.
The only problem that will still exist is that there is no place for the Highland Road lots to line up to collect. The hayfield can be done in a manner which allows cars to pull off river road.
I'd be in support of making the highland road lots a season pass only.

Plus, unused tickets =/= unsold tickets.

Damn, you were able to get all over the campus and make a head count at each game?? You're fast!
So I guess it's another LSU conspiracy on the numbers of people and the amount of trash. Geeez

It is simply substitution. There will be no new money brought into the community.
So those who spend the $600 more on Parking will take it from somewhere else: Smaller tailgates, less contributions to TAF, etc.

Why not just go up $5 on tickets to all events?

And why $50 annually, Golfer? A trailer takes up another spot that could be used by a vehicle. I don't think they should be higher than a car/truck, but definitely not lower.

D500MAG, Why should the athletic ticket holders pay for everyone else's tailgate spots?

you don't know that, though it is difficult to quantify.

some will sure, the money does have to come from somewhere, the question is will it have an adverse effect, my guess is no. It brings in more revenue and there are enough people waiting to buy tickets to make up for the babies that don't renew.
