I'm cool with anything from 4 to 6. Any lower, and some freakish things can happen. We control our destiny as we play two teams higher, and two others play each other. Without voter intervention, we can move to 3. If we lose a game (and everybody else loses at least one game) we will have an easier time than if we had started 8th or 9th.

Wow. SEC getting major respect - 3 in the top 6 is pretty impressive.

I agree, LSU is ranked too high for a first yr starter at qb and new d-cood.

Yes, a three loss season will be a success for this team with its schedule.

Actually 4 teams higher play against teams that are higher. USC-Ohio State and Florida-Georgia. The path to #1 is clear, just extraordinarily hazardous.

Michigan should NOT be ranked.

6 is a good place given our "question marks?" From all the hype sounded like we would be around 10. This is a good place, high enough were we can easily rise to the top (unlike Auburn 04) but out of the top 5 limelight (unlike last year).

Is he one of the voters this year?

Someone earlier said that he was.

This article was posted on the SEC Rant. Maybe this explains why no Duke vote, but I doubt this was the first time they had voiced that concern with The Visor.

I wonder how many SEC Coaches voted us ahead of Auburn in this poll but voted for Auburn to win the SEC East?

That is the media who prognosticate winners during media days, not the coaches.

I am 99.9999999999999999999999999999999999999999% sure that Tuberville voted LSU # 1. One of the main reasons is he wants us to be ranked high so his team will get a bump "when" he beats our team. Les Miles surely voted LSU # 1.

So the mystery is, who is the 3rd coach to vote LSU #1

At least we have three SEC teams in the top 6. That'll just help our rankings more - especially when we beat UGA and UF!

Yes.

I actually doubt that highly.

I say Richt and Meyer for the same reason as TT. If not Richt, then Tressel or Spurrier.

#6?!? This just goes to show you USA Today HATES LSU...but not quite as much as ND .

And I totally agree with the guy who said that this is a measurement of where the team is today; not what they are based on the schedule. I have always, always hated that logic...who are they voting for - a team or that team's opponents?

Florida-Georgia.

Yeah, I somehow forgot that those 2 SEC-E teams play each other. UGA/FL/LSU effectively play round robin, so there are 3 losses, guaranteed among the 3, and further 2 or 3 of the teams will not be undefeated.

He always gives them a vote, but he puts them at #25, not #1. It's a combination of a thank you to Duke for giving him an opportunity (twice, apparently), and a sort of satirical protest against how silly he thinks the poll process is.

That sounds more right. I never could remember it right. Maybe it isn't until week 1, like others suggested.
