First off, there may not be any statistical significance between 133.6 and 130 decibals. Second, this is only a peak number. As pointed out already, that doesn't factor in what the average noise is throughout the course of the game. Also, a peak in sound typically happens after a big moment and not before/during the actual play when it is a factor. Lastly, I'd be curious how consistently these readings are taken, as there may be other games that have been just as loud.

The constant piped in music deserves most of the blame

Nonsense. Fans aren't cheering for 3-4 hours nonstop. It always ebbs and flows with the game, and gets loudest during 3rd downs and other tense moments. The piped in music is used to encourage the fans to cheer louder.

Nonsense. The Tiger Stadium roar reached AT LEAST 150 decibels on three occasions I know of: 1988 vs. Auburn, 2003 vs. Georgia and 2007 vs. Florida.

It's not called Death Valley for nothing. It can be pretty lethal on eardrums.

I've always like Washington's stadium. It's design is really good at holding in noise.

I'll never forget how loud and crazy we got whenever it was announced that USC had been upset. Gives me the chills thinking about it, great memories.

The article lists the 2007 Florida game as the loudest recorded at 130 dbs. They didn't cite their source, and neither did you.

Also, I don't believe your number of 150 dbs because it is listed as a threshold for ear drums to be ruptured.

I went to LSU vs Washington game in Seattle. It is very loud, especially given design of stadium. Roof channels crowd noise.

Hey boy. I have been there during the good and the bad. This generation of Tigers fans is nothing like it was in the 70's and 80's...

I remember the crowd let loose just before Florida game 2010, and for the first and only time I experienced ear pain from too much sound. If you do a search you'll see 130 DB is the sound experienced standing 50 ft away from a fighter jet taking off from a carrier deck with its afterburners on. These levels are only for a moment or two in a game. Extended levels would require protection. People, 130 DB is REALLY loud, and for anyone to argue about stadiums at that level says more about the person arguing than it says about the stadium.

A note, I sit in the stadium club but had a chance to be on the sideline several years ago. The noise is much louder on the field, I presume because everyone in the stadium has their voices aimed in that direction. Down there the game is a different experience.

It wasn't loud in those end zone seats that sit 40 yds from the back of the field.

Of a big SEC Game at Night.......

I know, it's really shitty that we don't blow the lid off the joint and shake the earth for the whole game when Jacksonville State comes into Tiger Stadium.

I wonder if all the old timers bitching about how Tiger Stadium is now only super loud for a couple of big games forget that LSU used to be mediocre and EVERY game was a big game?

So true. I was a mile away from game, but have to admit I was surprised how loud it got.

Any of you fricks questioning the atmosphere in TS, pony up the dough and buy a ticket for this weekend. Come taste that magic first hand.

You do realize its only for the big games like bama right? On a regular game night, Tiger Stadium isn't near as loud as I'd say vanderbilt. Some of the posters above are correct, we are most definitely living on reputation at this point. I'd say 3 maybe 4 games a year its got a great atmosphere, not the rest of the games.

That list is bullshite they don't take into consideration that husky stadium has those 2 huge arse awnings on each side of their stadium which makes it amplify sound bigtime...it's not my opinion ,..it's a proven fact. .

Yeah, I lived in Bellevue a few years right across the lake from the stadium. It is a gorgeous and very loud place to be.
