I thought his zone was very consistent and a “college” zone for the first 6 innings, then he seemed to shift tighter. Worst thing an Ump can do is be inconsistent

Yeah we got calls that even as an LSU fan I was like holy shite that's bad
Glad to finally be on the good end of bad ump calls, though
We've been hosed quite a few times this year
Correct, anyone saying otherwise is sad and pathetic.

There is no doubt in my mind that the first pitch just missing and called a ball on LSU there will be 20 guys posting immediately about that sorry-assed ump. I like to read this site during the game until that crap starts. I was an official HS ump for years and never heard the close to Crap on this site in person. All I can say is: until you’ve walked in their shoes……
With the TV camera angle these guys have no clue where each pitch was.
That’s it! I’m done with my rant! Go Tigahs and score more runs, er points, than UNC tomorrow.??

Sad & pathetic is a bit dramatic.
If you are talking about the 1st 6 innings I completely agree w you.
But he squeezed Ulloa & then Guidry. Guidry had the most obvious strike of the night called a ball simply because the catcher dropped it.

Would have liked to give him a piece of my mind after he started squeezing

And your seat at the game is directly behind home plate? If so wave tomorrow and let me know what you’re wearing.

Actually my seats were right behind home plate. Not going tomorrow. Sadly I have to work.

I would say he was one of the best umps we have had behind the plate in a while
Posted on 6/2/24 at 9:15 pm to trex1250
Riiight! Sorry you had to miss the big game.
Posted on 6/2/24 at 9:15 pm to Basshole7
All the announcers were clear that Guidry pitch was a strike. Why argue?

He did mostly well. A little puzzling down the stretch, but we’ve had some real bums this season.
He looks great in comparison.

Uhh, trex I’m not arguing about one damn pitch in one game. I’m talking about 50 posts in all 30-40 games. Of course umps are not perfect and miss a few but miss 15-20 each inning all against our Tigers?
Now if you want to talk about that interference slide yesterday, I’ll go to jail with you on that one: pure showboating and if that ump was working for me, I’d replace him in front of the crowd. THAT was inexcusable. Get off the balls and strikes, tho.

He called the game consistently shitty throughout the game.

Fair post. & agreed on the slide. I was surrounded by UNC fans that all knew it was getting reversed until it didn’t.

I guess I get too riled up about this but it’s just too close to home for me. I played, coached and umpired American legion ball and I played, coached, umpired and organized 2 4-State tourneys a year for class A and Major mens fast pitch. I had to hire umpires and knew every one for miles. There were good ones and bad ones but I never tolerated the obvious bad ones and they worked for me ONE TIME.
Sure umps miss pitches but I believe misses are caused more by their position and the catchers position. Most of the time the catcher makes sudden moves to block their site. On close breaking stuff they sometimes have to guess. If they stand inside and the pitch is outside and the catchers body blocks site it’s tough as hell, especially with breaking or off speed stuff. Every ump positions differently and their site is different from the previous ump. A savvy pitcher sometimes can figure out the umps tendencies on certain pitches.

It was a 1 strike count. Was not a strike 3 pitch

influenced all night by framing of pitches
yeah - this makes no sense to me - If I were an ump behind the plate it would piss me off for the catcher to continually 'frame' the ball to where he 'wished it had been' - I would develop a bias toward doing the opposite.
I am a stickler for fair play in all aspects of life, but especially in sports.
