LSU will not have a player on defense drafted in the first 5 rounds. In the past, this would not happen. We can blame recruiting, NIL, portal, CEO, false rankings, CBK and development, but scheme can not be blamed, by itself, IF you don't have the players. Not saying DC is good, bad, but the combo was ugly. This is the personnel that we are looking at on the back 7. Young Corners that can't play zone, safeties that can't play man, LB's that can not play either. HP can, but does not play his responsibility, from play to play. We were so bad on 3rd down because offenses knew they could attack our LB's anytime they wanted. Trying to say, hard to have a defensive scheme when these players Abilities are so limited. Let the Hate begin .

Attracting good players is a coach’s job. Hard to spin this in some way that doesn’t come back to the coaching staff.

For a coach in his second season, does the lack of NFL Draft picks not speak more to how bare the cupboard was when Kelly arrived?

IF you are correct, you named 4 possible above the 5th. You are making my point. One of those has never started and the other only twice, so big ifs.

LSU has a perception problem on defense.
The national perception is that LSU plays horrible defense. HS and potential portal players watch it and see how inept our D players look, sometimes because they are inept, and most times because the scheme they are in makes them look inept.
Therefore, it is very difficult to get top players to come play in a system that makes them look bad. They want to be part of a great defensive team.
LSU has a long way to convince players that LSU can develop them and show off their abilities, not embarass them. LSU has to start by replacing their entire D staff so that players at least have a hope that they can be part of a huge change. It is going to be hard to overcome our performance the last two years on Defense. We must start afresh to even hope we can get some top players.

How long Lord?
With the Portal, NIL, and some of the most talented recruits in Louisiana, why should the past be important.
Who hired our OL Coach? Who discarded our linebacker coach? Who hired our DC Coordinator?

Yep, I was wondering how far along this topic would get before this hot croaked up by someone again.

So tired of this.

Maybe next year, year after, we can all agree this team is CBK’s creation.

He took over a team with less than 40 scholarships players.

In 2 seasons, LSU has won the west, had a Heisman winner, and has a chance at a pair of 10 win seasons.

Go find that entitled fanbase thread and hang out for a while.

You have no idea where any of these guys will be drafted. You are just throwing out assumptions. Did you believe Cordale Flott would be a 3rd rounder after his freshman year?

You are correct if you count the incoming class for year one.

You know how many scholarship players were on that field in Houston verses Kansas State.

Of course I’m counting them. Brian Kelly never coached a single practice in which LSU had under 40 scholarship players. You either have to count the guys they already had coming in or the guys that had played the entire year up until that game. Pretending that LSU only had 39 scholarship players on the roster is disingenuous.

OK

Of 85 scholarship players coming into his first season, less than half had ever played a snap at LSU.

Fair?
