Take Alabama for instance. They choose to spend their money on elaborate stadiums and amenities for the athletes. Millions upon millions are spent on having the latest and greatest facilities. Even a portion of that money would go a long way towards finding a program like opportunity Vanderbilt. It’s all about priorities.
On the contrary. Alabama offers a ton of automatic merit aid without regard to financial standing. They also invest in all around facilities (dorms, rec centers, classrooms) to attract every student, not just athletes. Many smart kids go for free, some pay a small amount and others not as academically advanced pay full ride.
I have no issue with Opportunity Vanderbilt. Notre Dame does the same thing. The scholarships are mostly “financial aid” and each case is evaluated.

I'm not saying that happens at Vandy but it could very easily happen and as you said is basically legal.
it absolutely does happen at Vandy, their coaches ask socioeconomic questions all the time... but, its legal... i think we can all agree the 11.7 is bullshite... it should be at least 20 at the minimum and there should be 4 paid coaches... the ADs and Univ presidents screwed that one..

Let’s talk about Vandy. The Wolfpack just beat them which is good. The Whistler makes me sick. If they wouldn’t have pulled Burrow from that game he would have scored 10 Touchdowns.

For those of you that care, I apologize for my horrible paragraph structure. I dropped out of Tennessee Tech after 2 years so I’m not as educated as many of you fine Cajun people are. Having spent a lot of time in Louisiana, especially south of I-10, I understand the complexity of your language skills.

Dansby Swanson took out student loans to play at Vandy. Why would he do that if he never had to pay anything as some of you are trying to claim?

Nope. Most of y’all don’t know the rules. You can’t combine need based financial aid with baseball scholarship money per NCAA rules. Direct quote From Travis Jewett former Vandy recruiting coordinator
Yes you can. They just recently changed the rule to allow this to happen.
LINK
“Under the previous rule, a player receiving academic scholarship money or receiving financial aid based on family income was not eligible to receive any of the 11.7 scholarships. Likewise, if a player got some of the 11.7 in athletic money, he couldn’t also receive any aid from the school. Now, all players can receive a mix of school and athletic aid. Coaches will now have to figure out how to “stack” the two amounts of aid, which eases some restrictions but doesn’t really level the playing field.
“The schools with the bigger endowments will see some more help,” Rogers said. “The private schools will benefit a bit more, like some do now.”
Vanderbilt has been a lightning rod for how to successfully get around the 11.7 scholarships and still recruit top prospects. “

You’re right, I had forgotten that they made this change. Went into effect August 1 of 2020. So, Vandy was doing pretty well beforehand.
