How does Robertson not see the field?

I think he'll start the year, but like he seems to do every season - he'll get passed up by someone more talented. He's a solid late inning defensive replacement, just not good enough at the plate to keep a starting job.

Thanks for input. Enjoy reading about newcomers bc I don't know much about them. Kinda why I wanted this thread to have an idea

Robertson needs to have a good summer in the Cape and carry some hitting into the spring. The kid was second on the team in BA in the fall but just cant seem to keep it going when the lights come on. You have to wonder if he finally gains some confidence as an upperclassman. I think he has potential to be a .275+ hitter and can make things happen when he gets on base. He also is the only returner with the range to play SS if the frosh don't work out there. No way Byrd can play there. I'm not even sure he can start at 2b against SEC play personally. Defense better be spot on next year with all we are losing offensively.

Is it a foregone conclusion that Chinea isn't returning? If he does wouldn't he be the 1B/DH with some time behind the plate too?

Fri- Lange
Sat- Poche
Sun- Latz
Bugg, Newman, Stallings, Reynolds, Bain, Norman should all have roles. Cole McKay should certainly pitch.
LF- Fraley
CF- Breaux
RF- Beau Jordan
3B- Lochridge
SS- Dawson
2B- Byrd
1B- Adams
C- Papierski
DH- Ducote or Deichmann
Also think that Zardon will play a lot and hit against lefties. I think Freeman could also play some. If Deichmann moves to outfield he may play more.

You're a lot closer. Ducote should play the OF over Jordan as a better athlete with a decent arm. Ducote will also be an indispensable bat in the lineup who will play every game.
LSU gave Dawson a full ride, so they expect him to be the SS right away.

Defensively, all that remains to be seen. But Ducote is going to have the highest BA on the team next year. I don't know his lefty vs righty stats, and everyone knows that PM tries to outthink himself when it comes to matches on the bump and at the plate.
(I'm still pretty much amazed at Schiambra's benching after his epic walkoff Home Run. He had confidence brimming. No knock on Zardon's play that game, but it's not a chess match. Everyone was sky high, and I can just imagine what happened when the lineup card came out)
But Ducote is a hitting machine, and from the looks of our 2015 postseason and CWS (it wasn't the best), we need more hitting. Combined with the hopeful pitching optimism, defense won't be as critical and you can put someone out there that isn't the best at his position.

We will need good D for poche he is pitch to contact so if out defense struggles so will poche.

Byrd can absolutely play there, and I would not at all be surprised to see him start the season as our starting SS. Robertson doesn't have the arm strength to play SS.

These come from the 2016 class recruiting post. I don't know about you, but you have to be excited to see these stats. Ducote is one tough out, doesn't strike out, has power and almost hits .500.
Some guy said we'll see how good he is vs SEC pitching. Well you can just about say that with every incoming player in the class. Defensively he looks OK, not Laird or Stevenson in the OF, but when you can hit like that you have to find your way in the lineup. I see OF for him with Lange on the mound or midweek, maybe DH with Poche.
I think we are going to be OK in the middle defensively, but there are no Bregmans in this bunch, at least not yet.

gotta admit man, you know this team. I agree with everything you listed.
anything can happen, of course, but I think we have a solid nucleas for next year.
I also think Stallings has a shot to regain his closer role and Norman to compete for Sunday starter.

Poche needs the best D out there right now until he finds himself again, to give him confidence. I think he will be fine, he learned.

1B: Adams? The kid from Delgado and Dunham? What do people think of him?

Agreed, but I'm not giving up on Bain being a weekend guy.
