Crowton's problem is not being willing to change play calling to match each game type situation. La Tech for example we could have pounded the ball down their throats. But he insisted on tryping to stay with his multiple sets and throw the ball when Lee couldn't hit Jenna Jamison with a pass. This happened in numerous games as bad as our line was if we had tried to have more of a power running game with two tightend sets I think they would have been more succesful instead of trying to run out of spread sets.

Hard to place all the blame on him though. Our O never had a reliable "home base" all of '09. Our OL stunk so our running game slogged, we couldn't run an option play

Then why did Crowton call it every game? Even though Jefferson was clearly not comfortable executing the option play? And the plays that Jefferson was comfortable executing (like a designed QB draw that was run against Auburn) we never saw again. We also never saw the QB read option play with Shepard at QB again after we ran it against UGA a few times for 10-15 yards.

Crowton's playcalling in 09 was abysmal. Against MSU we were in the wildcat formation with Holliday lined up on the outside, and the QB handed it off to Holliday....the only problem was it was called to the short side of the field.... Why on earth would you run Holliday to the short side of the field on a wildcat play? Doesn't make sense.

I don't get what Crowton does....run plays that we don't execute well because the defense won't expect it?

whats funny is some dipshit sitting here trying to defend a coordinator who's offense last year ranked #112.

What game was it where Keiland had a big gain on a run from a base formation on the first play, La Tech? Then as soon as the play is over the Chinese fire drill ensues with multiple WRs coming on the field , and then we throw incomplete from the spread formation. Obviously that was Miles' Big 10 mentality showing with him being so involved in play calling :sarcasm:

Miles was not calling the plays last year...he gave free reign to Crowton. It was stated in interviews and was discussed ad nauseum last season on this board. Many here even stated that Miles should completely take over the offensive playcalling.

where was this discussed? I must have missed those threads

pretty much any thread that was complaining about the playcalling during last season.

i'm sure you hear more about the offensive woes than most on here...what are your thoughts on this topic?

So true- But Crowton AND Miles are to blame, they both should be hung for the embarassing offensive showing last year. I still cannot understand why RS was not allowed to throw a SINGLE pass all last year- that has me perplexed as much as anything...

Exactly, the whole offense was an embarrassment and both Miles and Crowton are to blame.

It is absoulutely on both of them. If Miles had a "want" to run more he should have made Crowton run more base sets. We had mor succes running out of running formations...Amazing!

i would really love to share all, trust me.

but i will say the wrong person is getting the majority of the blame when this comes up.

are both to blame? absolutely.

biggest reason is they should be prepared going into a game and be prepared to make adjustments during.

i like to see offenses attack and dictate what the defense has to do, not the other way around.

there were too many times last year when a four man rush got to the QB.

there were too many times last year when a defense was blitzing and all the receivers were running down field, no hitches, no slants, no comebacks.

but not to get too far off topic, both deserve blame and i think they know that and will fix it

That is exactly what I'm talking about. It's was almost like they scripted the game plan and would not adjust to what the defense was doing.

Crowton should get blame for offense, and Miles should get blamed for his game management skills and also the offensive line after he boasted he line up pre season. The only thing Miles knows is offensive line and he managed to screw that up.

...proof that Crowton is calling the offense - Miles did'nt have a clue what was going on and the sideline was a cluster (just like what he did at BYU, Chicago, & Oregon)!

Which you can often get away with if you have a savvy playmaker at QB. Doesn't work that way too often when you don't have that guy back there taking snaps. The loss of RP created this problem for GC and LM because they could not adapt on the fly to having greenhorns under center.

So Crowton called a running play on second down against Ole Miss, but Les overruled him and called that idiotic drop back pass that got us sacked and put us out of FG range? Wow, didn't know that!

Half of you on here probably never played a down of ball, coached ball or even played a sport besides cross country!!People who know football from the inside out know what i am talking about..I dont care who calls the plays, but let our offensive players loose we have to much talent across the board..If miles calls them same make up, ill give him credit. he had a good offensive team at oka. state, dont know how involved he was with the play calling...Only crowton, should call the plays all the time,if miles has anything to do with the play calling fire crowton and dont have a OC...the ole miss game just showed how muc the coaches know whats going all of the time.which i think is pretty critical!! I dont like bama no more than anyone on here, but saban is the best coach in football. He know how to recruit and coach up his kids as good as any coach out there..

Good post. Crowton has shown himself to be one of the best college OC's in the entire history of College Football. His offenses rock. Hopefullu LSU will be lucky enough to have him take over as head coach when Les leaves.
