There's a reason I put a big IF in my post. I don't follow recruiting like you do. I actually tbought it was you that said the head coach was ultimately responsible for who gets recruited. If that's inaccurate, I apologize. I was simply saying that since Miles was the head coach until 4 games into the season, he probably had input on the '17 class. That doesn't detract from how much credit I believe Coach O deserves for holding that class together.

Doubt O will do much bettter than 2014-2016 Miles.

OK you are going to give O the credit for the last 4 classes of DL. Have it your way.
Some of you O pumpers continue to grab and hold on to anything that makes O look good in your minds. So DL is the new "look at O" now. Ok got it.
Just win more games than the previous guy! Until that happens consistently what your real point?
Win totals for the 2018 season from Las Vegas after 4 years of O's recruiting prowess - 7 wins for the powerful Tigers
Speaking of slides you say.......
Where's Les?

“Just a few observations of mine”
My observations:
LSU was judged to have the sixth best talent pool in the country last year. LSU had come off their 4th straight year of being ranked in the top 10 in the nation in the nation in recruiting . LSU played their weakest SOS in about the last 20 years last season. Coach O has been on the LSU staff as a D line coach or recruiting coordinator since 2015. LSU suffered their first loss to a Sun Belt conference team in our football history. LSU suffered our worst loss in Mississippi State history. LSU’s first major offense hire last season flopped miserable. The LSU record last season was a disappointment when you consider our strength of schedule and our overall performance against that schedule.
Coach O has been on the LSU staff since 2015. He has been in term coach/head coach since September 2016. To think that he does not carry any responsibility for the DL depth.or ability since that time is simply ridiculous.
It’s time to stop talking excuses and start talking results.

Let your O hate show young Padawan. O got here late 2015. The damages was completed by then because of Les’s stubborn arse. Not to comfortable with O but Les got left behind.

I honestly think you will never be able to grasp the fact that you can have highly recruited classes and still be weak in certain areas and those areas can have a significant impact on team performance

I blame it squarely on Nick Saban's shoulders.

I get your point. We can’t hold our D line coach/recruiting coordinator/intern coach/head coach on staff since 2015 responsible for your perceived weaknesses in our DL play or record disappointment.
I just don’t happen to agree with your position.

I do agree with the main point, as I always saw Les's downfall being recruiting holes in the OL and D front 7. A lot was bad luck with attrition/recruits and a lot was poor planning IMO. Orgeron does appear to be addressing that concern which is great, though it seems to me he has other deficiencies that will prevent us from being a top 5 type team.

But I'll leave the Key stuff alone because I know a lot of people are sort of down on him because of his last year at LSU under Orgeron.

Yep. The following statement I made was full of hate:

I still say the most impressive thing O has done since being promoted is keeping that '17 class together.

“Recruiting holes in the OL”
I’m not sure how much that statement stands up considering the fact LSU lead the SEC in rushing in 2015.

Holy shite. You are blaming O for the dl depth issues from the last 4 seasons. He has actually gone out and got some transfers and currently has a great haul on the DL. Just wow. The hatred from you over O doesn't even allow you to be rational. Just wow.

Les has a national title, two SEC titles, 3 SEC West titles, and countless NFL players under his belt.
Meanwhile, Coach Zero has the worst loss to Mississippi State in LSU football program history and a loss to Troy from the Sun Belt.
And we are supposed to be praising the latter??? I don’t think so. He hasn’t accomplished anything yet.

That 2013 class looked like a great group on paper. Gilmore, Herron and Bower were all highly ranked.

The 2014 class seemed to have some good players as well. Clark was a highly ranked player (fringe 150 overall). Unfortunately, again, Godchaux was the only guy of note.
This is an example of why you should not rely on recruiting websites and rankings to recruit a class. Not saying Brick couldn't evaluate talent (but he couldn't). I think the guy just paid his monthly fees to Rivals and 24/7 and let them do his evaluations.
Being able to evaluate players BEFORE they sign with your team is a really good thing. That's one of the reasons Eaux likes camps so much.

Obviously, this needs to repeated, yet again

quote:
Ultimately this whole thing is much ado about nothing. If O beats Florida in 16, we’re in the Sugar Bowl and everyone is happy.
If he beats Troy last year he is at 10 regular season wins and possibly another NY6 Bowl and again everyone is happy, even with the blowout to MSU and another loss to Alabama.
But this stupid DL deficiency is nothing but an attempt to distract from the fact that only two losses in games we absolutely had more than enough talent to win is what has kept this team from achieving what O was hired to achieve, get us back to 10 wins and NY6 Bowl contention (not even holding him to the championship criteria Alleva proclaimed in his introduction).
