loved Les. what pissed me off (and frustrated the hell out of me) was how we not only did not take advantage of winning the natty in '07 but how far the team dropped after that. that was the first sign I saw of his complacency.
You can look this up if you want, but lsu has the exact same record in the era between 2000-2008 as they do from 2009-2017. Whereas this major decline of which you speak?
We were 13-1 in 2011

Eta: I liked les but it was time for him to go. Just don't make shite up

Miles

2013- 5-3
2014- 4-4
2015- 5-3
2016- 1-1

O

2017 4-2
2018 6-2

No offense, I prefer a higher sec winning % than what miles had the last few years

I think we all do, but some are capable of realizing the sec sucked outside of bama and uga last year. Most teams we beat last season fired their coaches for crying out loud

this is Aranda's thoughts on his guys and the different things they do. He seems happy to have them and I'm happy that he is happy.

So you are saying he was dammed if he did, or didn't. Yes we get it. The good news is has had a chance to follow it up this year with another successful campaign

No he’s saying 6-2 against that schedule isn’t really anything to write home about. As evidenced by the fact that we wound up in the Citrus Bowl and with a fringe top 20 finish. If we don’t completely shite the bed against Troy and State, that season looks a lot different in retrospect.

Yeah. I’m going to sit here and say that. If our offense wasn’t a complete shite show we would have.

That's a legit stance to have.

Saying that our DL shouldnt get manhandled by Troy isn't, given the circumstances of that game. Make up your mind on what you want to whine about

I think people forget how that game started. Brossette fumbled on play 1 from scrimmage, then O stated after the game he didn't know the "3rd string RB" was in the game.

Lester, you point out the 4 offensive turnovers, but claim it was lack of DL depth that did us in that day? I'm gonna go with the 4 offensive turnovers. And the HC not having a clue what was going on (his words, not mine), and him meddling with the offense.

That said, I'm about tired of this argument, looking forward to the season, and honestly, happy with the way things are progressing at the moment. I think it'll be a better season that I thought in...say...January.

Les was always lauded as a great recruiter

He was when he was at the top of his game.

still leaves me wondering what happened to Les.

Same thing that happens to most long time coaches. Things become stale. They lose the extra drive that made them a great coach. There are very few coaches that this doesn't happen to.

How many scholarship players at LSU considered signing at Troy or had Troy amongst their top 3 or 5 schools of interest?

wl you what ,’ list he ones that Peveto recruited sand established the relationship with INCLUDING KEY

You and the recruiting sites would certainly know better than Arden Key and his family.

"When LSU hired Ed Orgeron, they hired him to win recruiting battles like this one. Key was always a player on the fringe for LSU, a guy they liked, but couldn't convince. A guy they wanted, but didn't seem to factor for. He took an unofficial visit in November, but didn't really change his stance. The staff stayed persistent, but it was pretty clear that Arden Key would be playing elsewhere, probably within the conference, if it were not for Ed Orgeron. Key himself, and his family, have routinely made it a point to state as much."

"As already mentioned above, Key wasn't really on the radar until the hiring of Ed Orgeron. He had committed to South Carolina in June before his Senior season. He decommitted in January, a month before signing day, but many figured he would eventually wind up a Gamecock in the end. Even Key himself still listed them as his top choice. LSU hired Orgeron a week later. Key officially visited LSU that very weekend and he and his family were simply blown away by Orgeron. So much so, that reports began to leak that he may actually be leaning toward committing. Which is exactly what happened a couple weeks later.

Key followed through on that commitment a few days later, by signing his letter of intent. It was our first inclination of what it's like to have a truly elite DL recruiter on staff."

Same article on Brick:

"In his early days at LSU, Brick Haley earned a reputation for being a strong closer, winning out on prospects like Sam Montgomery, Ego Ferguson, Frank Herron and Greg Gilmore. But slowly his effectiveness waned. Sure, he pulled Travonte Valentine, but LSU pretty routinely finished second in the race for many top defensive line recruits. Some of that can't be prevented. You can't win 'em all, they say. Perhaps it's luck evening out, or perhaps the lack of successful NFL proteges eventually caught up to Brick. If your recruiting trails off and your development isn't exceptionally strong, well, you are probably staring at a new job come next fall. Which is exactly where we find ourselves now."

Such a basic fricking thought that lacks any type of critical thinking

It's an honest question that I don't know the answer to. My guess would be zero, but I don't know. Figured some of the recruiting guys might know.

So then it was a lack of resources that led to the program “sliding” under Les?

Don't know about any of that. If you could read you would have realized I was responding to a poster who said the program was stagnant under Eaux. The increased support staff was one of the reasons I gave as to why it isn't.

Please try to keep up, I don't have the time to explain everything you read to you.

I guess you don't like the fact that Burrow, Fehoko, Giles, Damien Lewis, Cole Tracy, Moss and Alexander are on the LSU team?

Justlivin, you are addressing the DL, but in truth, Les mismanaged the whole roster.

It's been beaten to death how Les mismanaged the offense. That was why I specifically mentioned the defense because everybody considers the defense where LSU stands out as a team. LSU is always good against the pass but they haven't dominated against the run since the 2011/2012 seasons. I think that changes this year with the DL depth and linebacker group.

Always happens when fans elevate the coach status above that of the program to the point where they ignore the obvious. ANYONE should have been able to see that Saban in BAMA was going to be huge trouble for us. But the Miles characature took on a life of its own thanks to fans and Miles himself eating grass and “stiff dew” became more glorified than rings and titles.

My bad. I couldn't remember who I was replying to and you and I have discussed the HC and recruiting limitations set by them.
