Not the whole country just some with many bandwagon LSU fans joining in on criticism instead of defending a program you should be proud of. I use the term fans loosely.

The LSU program is NOT Les Miles. But from the sounds of it you were probably defending Curly and Gerry Dinardo.

I love this!!! The Miles Apologists always have someone else to blame for the shortcomings of the LSU football program. It's never Les' fault. Let's rundown all of the scapegoats shall we? Mallory, Peveto, Perilloux, Crowton, Flynn for holding the ball too long, Jefferson for being too young, Lee for being too green, TigerDroppings.com for spreading negativity, the Alabama replay official for being corrupt, Peterson for getting hurt just when we were about to come back. I'm sure I'm leaving a few out.

I choose to blame the guy IN CHARGE. I guess this makes me a simple minded, dummy.

Who hired Crowton? Les did. Who is in charge of Crowton? Les is. Who is responsible for Crowton? Les is. Who do we blame for Crowton, again? Oh yeah, the administration!!! LOL. Too funny.

I was pissed when that clown didnt go to Michigan. LSU won that NC in spite of Les Miles not because of him.

Maybe Les should have taken 800,000 or 1 million (whatever the buyout is) and paid Crowton out of his own pocket. I mean, it is his responsibility right?

MIles pulled in a new DC after 08. I'm sure if he could have, he would have got a better OC this year.

Maybe I'm wrong, but does Les Miles write the contract agreements for the coaches or does the Administration?

I'd def. compare Les to Gerry, and that's more a compliment to Gerry than a knock on Les

It’s not Les Miles; not if LSU cares about its future for the next decade. Park the passion and just think about it for a sec. If LSU pulls the trigger on a coach with (i) a few decent if not spectacular seasons with two inexperienced, sophomore QBs and a two new DCs, (ii) six straight top 15 recruiting classes, (iii) is the only Tiger coach to beat Florida, Alabama and Auburn in a single season, ever... and he’s done it twice, (iv) produced a good graduation rate, and (v) is just three years removed from winning it all, riddle me this: what top flight coach is going to step into that nightmare? What kind of bar are you setting? So you’re saying you can accomplish all Miles has to this point (including the 2007 NC), lose your DC, have decent seasons with those rookie QBs, and you get fired??? Good luck finding a truly A-list coach to take his place. Nope, for the second straight season, not a single SEC coach will be fired. How ‘bout ‘dem apples. Richt gets another pass even with a flop. South Carolina has proven it won’t fire the OLD Ball Coach. Kentucky’s got a new man, and everyone else is either too new or has built up too much good will to get fired in 2010.

Mostly agree

Unless he turned in something like a 4-8 season he won't get fired... but less than 10 wins and the seat will be moderately to very hot.

Likely he'd fire Crowton if the offense hadn't signficantly improved

I think i'm probably the biggest Miles fan but i agree with BREAUX if the offense doesn't do something this season then there will be some big question marks. I want better seasons and not 8-5 or 9-4, thats a losing record
But anywyas

No, but don't you think Les has a say in which of HIS staff will be retained and which of HIS staff will not be retained? Last I checked, hiring, firing and retaining a staff is 100% the job of the Head Coach.

No, I'm sure Les doesn't sign the checks, but I'm sure Les is in the room for discussions regarding raises and extensions for HIS staff. Do you really think the administration would approve raises and extensions of assistant coaches without getting the proper input and approval of the Head Coach, first? Whose staff is it Miles' or Alleva's? If I were the Head Coach, I would be sure to give the AD a heads up if I had an issue with one of my assistants. Something along the lines of, "yeah we got to give him a raise because of the NC, but please don't tie my hands long term, because I'm not sure he's ultimately the right guy."

Let's assume your assertion is true, that Miles wanted to fire Crowton, but was told the buyout was too rich. If this is true, I still hold Les accountable, because:

A. He hired Crowton
B. He signed off on an extension and raise
C. He has authority to override any call he doesn't like.

I choose to blame the Head Coach. But, that's just me. I'm a dummy.

As for Billy Gonzales. If he is the de facto Coordinator now, why leave Crowton on the staff? Just pay him to stay home. This is just silly. Crowton is the OC, not Gonzales.

If that is the case, then Miles is spineless. That means the administration has no respect for the decisions Miles makes.

how do you know this?

I'll give you this. It was very confusing to me when Miles said he had a want to get Shepard more touches or he strongly suggested a running play after Crowton called a passing play at the end of the Ole Miss game.

He should definitely have overridden some of those bonehead GC calls.

I'm not saying Miles has done a perfect job, but he doesn't write the contracts. The Board and the AD handles that. His hands were tied on this one and he at least made the move he could make with bringing BG in.

Wishful thinking won't put Miles on the hot seat. Again, he hasn't had a losing season. No administration in its right mind would fire a coach who has never had a losing season at the school.

Yes, that excludes Nebraska.

You just don't fire coaches who continue to have winning seasons.

Some schools have (i.e. Nebraska and Frank Solich) ---- but as in my example they typically regress rather than improve in the immediate future.

I agree - Miles will not be fired at LSU unless he starts having losing season(s)
