It's also fair to contextualize Miles' other records, and recognize that he has benefited tremendously from his situation, and the role Nick Saban played in his success at LSU.
Sure. As long as you also discredit Saban for his successes at 'Bama in 2008 and 2009, knock yourself out.

No. I'm not talking about arbitrary years that every coach gets discredited for. Surely you see how ridiculous that is, as each situation has its own unique factors to consider.
Saban did an incredible job building LSU up to elite status. If you don't put Miles' numbers within that context, you're being disingenuous.
Also, Miles has maintained the winning percentage, but hasn't kept up with Saban's Championship pace at LSU.

Yes, one would think that for, what 4M/yr, that we would get more from Miles, but no.

Speaking of disingenuous, Saban has also never had to coach against Saban. I think everyone agrees saban is the best in the business, so expecting Miles to beat him consistently be better than him seems a little disingenuous to me.
Yall keep comparing what Miles does to Saban, while simultaneously saying that Saban is the best in the business. How do you expect Miles to be consistently better than the best?

His one SEC championship or his one national championship? Do yo homework son.
Here is the level of talent of head coaching in the SECW when Saban was @ LSU by winning %
Ole Miss: .632
Mississippi State: .340
Arkansas: 0.607
Auburn: .647
Alabama: .489
Here are the # of other SEC schools that won a National Championship during Saban's tenure: 0
The level of competition wasn't even close.
Do you think that compares with the level of competition in the the last 4 years?

Look I'm getting tired of Miles too, but Saban was responsible for LSU from 2000-2004. Anything Miles won afterwards is his accomplishment and not Saban's. I don't care how good LSU was when he took over, plenty of good coaches fail after following a successful coach.

IMO, LSU is not reaching its potential with Les Miles as coach...he is certainly a good, but not great, coach.
LSU is gifted with a state that produces more NFL players per capita, except for possibly Mississippi. It, unlike Alabama, does not have a major competitor in-state to compete with..simply said, there are few other universities that have the natural geographic advantages LSU has.
I sense LSU football is on a decline with Miles. A very divided fan base, as exists now, is bad for the university. A change is needed.

Here's a fact, he backed into the NC game with a 2 loss team and won. With Saban's players.
He earned the second SEC championship, and the NC game birth, but has what to show for it?
You can put a ton of players into the NFL. Win a lot of games during your tenure, but if you have nothing to show for it, what good is winning all of those games.

I mentioned the comparison because pro-Miles people repeatedly look at his record out of context. They seem to have a non-nuanced, non-contextualized perspective that doesn't account for Saban's role in Miles' success, and also the building-up job that Saban did.
More numbers:
SEC Record at LSU
Miles - 55-24 (.696%)
Saban - 28-12 (.700%)
And that's not counting the shutout in the BCS NCG.

They each have won 2 SEC Championships and 1 National Championship at LSU, son.

So in 5 years a LSU Saban won 2 SEC and 1 national title
Les Miles won the same in 10 years as a coach
Saban has since won 2 more SEC titles and 3 national titles at Bama
What is my point? Saban is clearly better then Miles. However, Miles is still a very good coach and will have us as a good 10 win team most years. Our options are to be happy with this, and continue to be behind Bama and Saban, or take a risk and try and get a coach that can overtake this. However, we could turn into UF

No one is denying that the level of competition has gone up.
But you have to also consider that Saban did a rebuilding job at LSU and set the program on an elite trajectory.
LSU's Record in the 2 years prior to Saban
Overall - 7-15
SEC - 3-13

To me, the choice is obvious, but a lot of people have become very fond of Miles.

So because the level of competition is higher, the bed shitting that has gone on over the last few years is excused?? No!

So should Saban owe his success from 2007-2010 to Shula, or does that only work one way?
