and yet he led them to a #5 total defense and #4 scoring defense in 06. In 05 Miami had #15 team defense and #17 scoring defense. So he had them on right track defensively. They probably could have bounced back from 6-10 to post a 8-8 or 9-7 record the following season.

I'm surprised sabans jock hasn't fallen off yet from all these tigers fans still riding it! Was he a great coach? Yes, and still is. I have no beef with saban for leaving, but he did and he is no longer our coach.
We have a good coach and a great man in Miles. He is an awesome recruiter, the players love him, and you have to admit he's pretty damn entertaining! To people who say w will never win it all under miles again, GTFO! No matter who our coach is, we will have down years. If these past few years are a bad as it gets, he can stay as long as he wants! Saban is gone..GET OVER IT ALREADY!!

Again... I don't see 15-17 as failing... I can name more coaches that I would considered "fail" than that. I can also name coaches that started off worse or equal to his 15-17 that went on to have success...

it wasn't just the record...it was the way he handled players, the way he dealt with fans and the media, and the way he f'd up the drafts.....add all that to his record and i call it a fail

+1 Choctaw. Nick thrives in a setting were kids look up to him. He didn't know how to handle players that were his equal. Nick could've stuck around in Miami to see if he could get it together. Problem is he knew he was in over his head.

Well just using draft
2005:
Ronnie Brown - Good seasons health issues
Matt Roth- Still in NFL with Cleveland
Channing Crowder- Decent Player
Travis Daniels- Played 4 seasons in NFL
Anthony Alabi- played 5 season in NFL
Kevin Vickerson- still in NFL with Denver
2006:
Jason Allen- Still in NFL with Texans
Derek Hagan- Still in NFL with Giants
Joe Toledo- Still in NFL with Seahawks (Practice Squad_)
Fred Evans- Still in NFL with Vikings
Rodrique Wright- 2010 With Jets as Practice Squad
Devin Aromashodu- Still in NFL with Bears
So while his drafting over 2 years only produced 1 Pro-Bowl player and only 1 other the became a good player for the Dolphins more than a few are still in the NFL in some capacity. Not sure how that would stack up over other coaches but it doesn't look horrible.
Yes he handled players very poorly and the Brees situation bit him in the arse... You are entitled to your opinion I just disagree with it as a fail.

and considering that he has averaged 2 losses each season will we accept such for the next seven seasons?
Overall - Dietzel only coahc to go undefeated and finished 1, 3 and 4 his last 3 years with only 2 losses. He just didn't stay long enough.
Wins with Less - Nick Saban He won with less talent than ANY coach we have ever had.
Coaching ability? - Bill Arnsparger. Hands down the best X's and O's coach we have ever had at this school. He took 3 years and a decent talented team and won consistently and an SEC title. First since 1970. Keep in mind that Archer took his coached-up talent to an 10-1-1 record. In today's game, that team would have played for a MNC.
Recruiting - Les Miles - I believe he, Saban and Dinardo are the best 3 recruiters we have had at this school. He gets the nod over those 2.
Stress Factor - Les Miles. He could make wins a little easier on the fans.
Best Human Being - Cholly Mac. He was also an excellent coach!

Saban is the best defensive Coach LSU
That would be Bill Arnsparger. Ask most NFL teams as well.

Too bad he couldn't stick around and win a national title like Saban did.

And for the record all the ones picking Miles over Saban as LSU's best coach could Miles have done what Saban did?
We'll never know. We weren't about to hire the TE coach from the Dallas Cowboys with no head coaching experience to replace DiNardo and we didn't. Not sure who his DC would have been. That's important. Having a vaunted defense helped tremendously in getting LSU and Saban to the Sugar Bowl in January of 2004 and in beating OU. It helped him and Bama beat UT last year for the BCS national title game, making Saban the only coach in the country to win 2 BCS national title games at 2 different schools.

Vegas line was 8-4, we ended up 10-2....
Therefore Les and his team exceeded expectations.
I will give back two of those 10-2's, in years 3 and 5 of the 7,
for one next season of 14-0.

Here what we do know:
Miles with no QB: 11-2
Saban with no QB: 8-5
(Needing a Kentucky miracle to get one of those wins)

And then followed it up the next season winning 13 games, something Miles has yet to accomplish.

Then he quickly plummeted back down to the his comfort zone of 8 or 9 wins at LSU.

Miles is the more aggressive game coach; he plays to win a lot more than Saban does. On his first 4th down as LSU coach, on the road and backed up to the endzone, our punter throws a pass for a 1st down. The list of 4th down fakes and straight-out go for its has grown very large since then. Saban played it safe a lot more, instead of always pushing to take advantage.
Miles has also been the better big-game coach- his lone bowl loss was at a horrible field, totally negating his team's speed advantage, and the game was still close. Saban, both at LSU and Bama, has had some stinkers in bowls (Iowa, Utah come to mind). People seem to forget that Ferentz at Iowa poked some holes in Saban's mythical defensive genius, not just by the last sec TD, but by having his team run all over our defense in the Cap 1 bowl. And before you mention Iowa being a "run-oriented Big 10 team", go check their rushing average that year. I think it was something like 60 yds a game.

Miles never rolls anybody under the bus. Nicky rolled everybody under the bus...
Miles players would crawl a mile on broken glass on their bellies for him. A friend of mine played for Nick and he wouldn't piss on him if he was on fire...
Run the numbers, LM is coaching his team through the toughest division in the toughest conference in college football and he is putting up a record as good or better than anybody in the same league.

Only after winning 13 games. Hasn't been done since. He's also pulled 2 back to back undefeated regular seasons at Bama and won 14 games last year.
