re: Les and redzone playcalling without Jefferson

If you're going to roll Mett out you have to give him at least 2 options to throw to. I remember how good JJ was at this because you had to respect the run and pass. What we need to do is roll out Bolden, Ware, etc, on a wildcat/option play with a chance to throw it.

4 games is 1/3rd of your regular season, and the 2011 team was stellar in the RZ all year long. Les doesn't need a mobile QB, just pretty sure he prefers one.
It's not about a mobile QB or lack thereof. It's about an inexperienced QB and the fact that every defense is using the template used by Alabama last year to slow down the run. In short, the QB and WRs have to convert the passing game to help the running game. The QB needs to learn when to audible which I don't see much of. The QB needs to focus on his own tendencies to ensure he's not tipping off the defense and instead mislead the defense. WRs need to sell run on pass plays and vice versa.

this.
Unfortunately our offense outside of the redzone suffered with JJ.
I don't know what our red zone percentages are but I would have to suspect that it is because of lousy play calling like last week. Unfortunately due to the general ineptitude of our offense the sample size is pretty small of late.

he's going to actually have to come up with some creative offensive schemes

If there was one thing Jefferson was good at it was making something happen in the redzone.
Was he?
All I remember about JJ in the red zone is that he didn't turn it over.
Oh and I also remember the Tennessee debacle when he didn't realize that the clock was clicking backwards to 0....Thank you again T-Bob.

Not just picking on you with this comment at all.
But we are acting like its all play calling in the red zone. Are we forgetting that Miles was dialing up the passes in the red zone earlier in the season and Mett responded by throwing 2 picks? Everyone creamed themselves over Mett's throw to Boone against NW in game 2 last year and Miles was trying to dial up some passes into the end zone again and Mett threw picks early on.
If Mett had thrown a pick against UF from the 4 yard line this whole board would be calling him a frickin idiot for calling a pass play.
Not saying Mett can't throw a pass in the red zone at all, but I can see how one would be a little timid to call those plays right now in a nasty environment on the road. This week would be a different story.

This is a good response to nearly every thread on the rant at the moment.
