This is what I've seen as well. You can skip just don't get caught on the wrong day.

I doubt he had to sit because he skipped one class, must have happened a couple of times

one year i took accounting 2001(i think, its been awhile) with 10+ lsu football players. on the average, maybe 2-3 showed up each day. test day, class full of lsu football players.
