"Will be title contenders next year"
Sure they will....That's what the majority of posters said about this year... Forget it until Orgeron is gone. He is without a doubt the most disorganized HC I have ever seen.

I always have 9-3 as the floor... Anything worse is pretty much a failure, anything better is a good/great season.
That’s pretty much my point. People act like 10-2 seasons should be the expectation, but 10-2 in the SECw is objectively a good year even by LSU standards. If you go 10-2 you are almost certainly “competing for a CFP spot,” as it means you’re at most one game away from winning the division.

So what you’re saying is that even during the most successful run in LSU football history, 10-2 was still not the “floor”?
What?
10-2 was absolutely “the floor” for what is considered a good season. Of course it’s not “the floor” in the sense that we could never possibly do worse than that.
Are you saying 08 and 09 were good or successful seasons?
10-2 is the benchmark for a “good” season.
9-3 is average and anything below that is a bad year that signals major work to be done.
You said 10-2 as the standard was a myth.
My point was that consistent 2 loss regular seasons or less are absolutely a valid expectation because we’ve seen this program is capable of doing it in the very recent past when we did it eight out of ten seasons.

SENIORS:(14)
16. Andre Anthony
17. Tory Carter
18. Jabril Cox
19. Austin Deculus
20. Darren Evans-Not made a difference
21. Neil Farrell Jr.
22. Jontre Kirklin
23. Cameron Lewis
24. Glen Logan
25. Racey McMath
26. Liam Shanahan
27. JaCoby Stevens
28. Ray Thornton
29. Zach Von Rosenberg
They need to keep one of
Deculus, Shanahan.
Both would be ideal.
One of Logan/Farrell
JaCoby Stevens obviously would be huge. Not sure where his stock stands after this season. Should come back & play a season at LB. But his 19’ tape gets him drafted.
McMath & Cox have accepted Sr bowl invites.
It’s imperative to recruit back:
Gaye
Damone Clark
Ingram

Maybe it’s semantics. I see folks around here argue all the time that anything less than 10-2 is abject failure. I don’t agree with that, and I think it’s a pretty lazy way to define success or failure. I agree that 9-3 seasons are what I would call average by LSU standards.
2008 was a bad season. We went 3-5 in SEC play (7-5 in the regular season), won our bowl game vs. #14 Georgia Tech convincingly, and finished the year unranked.
2009 was a little different. We went 5-3 in SEC play (9-3 regular season), lost a close bowl game vs. #11 Penn State, and finished #17 in the AP. Is that what I would call a “good” season? No, but I don’t know that I’d call it a bad season either. Despite our 9-3 regular season, we had a chance to finish in the top 10 if not for a last minute Penn State field goal.
3-loss seasons can be good, they can be bad, or they just be average.
In 2012 we went 10-2 in the regular season and lost our bowl game to finish 10-3, #14 in the AP. We beat teams that finished the season ranked #5 and #8. We lost to teams that finished the season #1, #9, and #11.
In 2018 we went 9-3 in the regular season and won our bowl game to finish 10-3, #6 in the AP. We beat teams that finished the season ranked #7 and #11. We lost to teams that finished the season ranked #2, #7, and #16.
Was 2012 really that much better than 2008 or 2018 just because we only lost 2 regular season games? That’s my point.

You’re counting guys we already lost twice.
Half those guys were gone this season.
Half those guys were gone this season.

Should go 8-4 at worst with the schedule being much easier, but it's still going to be an extremely young and inexperienced team

We really need Deculus and Ingram back.

Not me. Before the opt outs I thought we had the chance to be good if we got good QB play. But once Jamar Chase opted out, I wrote the year off.

At least half of those seniors are coming back. This season doesnt count for eligibility.
