What a wonderful day to be a Lady Tigers fan!
LSU 59
Ole Miss 48
Van Chancellor has done a coaching job worthy of a hall of fame coach with this young group. One month ago this LSU team was 11-8 and 4-3 in the SEC midway. Since losing to Auburn at home, this team has gone 6-1 in the SEC, including having won five in a row. At the time of the Auburn loss, LSU still had Florida, Georgia, and Tennessee still left to play and many assumed that this team had little chance to make the NCAA much less finish in the top 3 in the conference (although I did). After today, LSU sits at 17-9 overall, 10-4 in the SEC, and defeated all three of those teams.
Today, was a total team effort. LSU as a team continues to improve their team FG% after shooting 44% today (60% in the second half). The defense is still tops in the SEC and basically imposed its will upon Ole Miss today. LSU held a six point lead at the half and expanded it to as high as 17 with about 5 minutes to play, until Ole Miss went on a run towards the end for the final margin.
LSU had fairly balanced scoring with Lasondra Barret continuing her STRONG bid for SEC freshman of the year with 18 pts (after scoring 18 against Tenn Thursday) 5 rebs 3 ast. Here's the line for the Lady Tigers................
Barrett 18 pts 5 rebs 3 ast
Hightower 12 pts 7 ast 3 reb
Morris 11 pts (4-7) 5 rebs 2 blk
Dunning 6 pts 6 rebs
LSU extends its streak of winning at least ten games in the SEC, to seven straight years. At the beginning of the season this is where the Lady Tigers were predicted to place......
SEC Preseason Predictions
I wasn't sure where they'd finish place-wise, but I did say they'd finish 9-5 and that that would be good enough to get into the NCAA tournament. But, to my surprise, this YOUNG team finished 10-4 and is one of the hottest teams going into post season.
The future looks bright on the bayou! Can't wait for the recruits we have coming in next year to join the mix. Then perhaps we'll even get our offense back into the 70s.
Bwahahahahaha
:-))

I agree, lsualum! They need to sign that 6'6 girl from la. next season, and the #1 recruit for next season goes to the same school as Katherine Graham did in Alabama. You probably know as well as I that Van has quite a pull in Alabama and Mississippi.

Well, certainly having someone that tall can help. But, if she's that tall but not athletic then she really wouldn't fit into the system. She would slow everything down.
The recruits we have coming in next year will add height and scoring ability. This team will be final four ready again next season. This season, whatever happens from here on out is gravy. They've already exceded what the rest of the SEC thought they'd be able to do this season.

Looks like a 3rd brutal and ugly battle with Miss State in the tourney, although I'm going to be pulling for the Lady Cocks (?) to win. I don't think State will beat us again the way we're playing now. I'd like to see us advance in the SEC tourney to improve our seed in the NCAA. Playing at home should help us get past the 2nd round if we can improve our seed and get a favorable draw.

Yea, I agree.
And I don't know why MSU seemed to have our number this season. But, if the Lady Tigers play MSU the way they played them in the second half of the last contest, they should take them out just like the others.
I'd love to see the team make it to at least the SEC tournament semis. But, if they end up meeting Vandy in the semis, we might end up going home. For some reason, we always have trouble with them...................even in years when we've won the conference. Go figure.

.........and by the way, here's a link to a story about the 6'5" girl down in New Orleans....
Theresa Plaisance
She's currently ranked 15 in the nation in her class (class of 2010).......
ESPN Player Rankings
I can't imagine that Van will let her leave the state.
The player mentioned earlier from Katherine Graham's high school, in Alabama is currently the top ranked player in the nation in that class as well.
