the intensity level and pressure always picks up when you're in close games.

Some people don't seem to understand this. They think there is only 1 way to skin a cat, and that way is to blitz, blitz, blitz, and berate, berate, berate.



And that's just not the case. I've said this before, but people see Saban yell and scream, and they jump to the faulty conclusion that that is the causality of his being a great coach. It's not. Nick Saban is a great football coach because he is understands football, is a great teacher, and he pays fantastic attention to detail. He'd be just as good if he didn't almost stroke out every 15 minutes.




And I've found that the most effective arse-chewing comes in practice. When the adrenaline is pumping and the pressure is really on, players need a more calming influence on gamedays. Someone who seems in control of not only the game, but his own emotions. I think Saban's antics on the sideline actually hurt him a bit here. His greatness happens on Sunday-Friday, not necessarily on Saturday.

ask saban(i'm just throwing his name out b/c he is by far the best coach in the country) if he lives that way on the sideline.
