Lack of linebacker development

Everyone is right to jump on Pelini for these awful defensive performances, but when is the last time LSU didn’t have linebackers waiting in the wings to step up? Even when Welter was a weak spot, the other two LBs were Kevin Minter and Quan Alexander. I guess losing Marcel Brooks hurt.

My point is that the terrible defense this year is the symptom of a lack of linebackers development over the last few years. This is not just a Pelini problem.

You mean the only LB with a pulse?

To be fair, while he has looked out of position, he has made as many solid plays as anyone aside from Ali Gaye on the line.

Cox is a real talent and is a perfect fit for todays game. I just dont think Bo knows how to use him.

At least Cox has made some plays this year. Clark on the other hand might be the worst starter on this defense and it frankly isn't close. Why in the world has White or Sampah not gotten a chance is beyond me. Just because you are # 18 doesn't mean shite if you are getting embarrassed every game.

With today's offenses you need smaller fast linebackers that can run sideline to sideline ala Queen and Debo. Devin White was the exception not the rule. The fact that he was 240 and could still run sideline to sideline is insane.

That’s not saying much... just because he’s the best linebacker we have, does not make him good at football. Dude is always out of position, slow, and isn’t great at tackling.

That’s my point. The only guy playing ok is an import. Usually LSU has guys ready to go. Debo and Duplessis were one year starters before getting drafted and starting in the NFL.

Dude you have gotten nearly every player’s name wrong. And Minter wasn’t playing a lot with Welter, he was drafted before Welter ever got real minutes.

Just stop.

Quan? Duplessis?

Cox is definitely a bust, LSU should never have to go to d2 schools and poach players. He hits very soft if you watch him and isn’t great sideline to sideline.

Your posting is almost as strong as your reading comprehension. Minter and Quan were with welter. Sorry for misspelling K’won and I guess it was Duke Riley and not duplessis. It’s been a while since I had to think about those guys.

Minter was drafted after the 2012 season. Welter didn’t play until the 2013 season.

how did clark ever get selected to wear 18 is beyond me

unless being chose to wear that number means something else that doesnt relate to football that he does very well

think that whole tradition is dumb as shite anyway, make your own legacy with your own number

18 is voted on by the players and is a symbol of leadership. It’s not a talent or ability thing really.

I didn’t see much leadership from
18 yesterday.

You didnt watch game ,did you? He is only LB that sniffed a play during last three weeks. Clark is invisible. We need to start the freshmen and that them grow. We don’t have the big thick LB that just don’t let other teams slice up the middle.. Guess I am saying no run stopping LBs.

It might be a Pelini problem, we all watched Clark make plays last year. I don't think forgot how to run and hit, it's this scheme Pelini is running. He has linebackers playing slot receivers one on one or have them in a match up zone covering drag routes. His defense isn't working, Jacoby Stevens has played a lot of football and he's out there lost on some plays.

ARanda was the linebackers coach over the last few years and Pelini is the LB coach this year.
