I think our offensive problems stem from a lack of identity on offense. Think about when you turn on ESPN and they talk about the exotic spread and speed of UF and the Physical nature of Alabama.

You don't think of one thing with LSU. One down, we'll be in a two tight end set with our 235 pound RB and the next we'll be in 5 wide. We'll even use motion and run the fricking option. We do none of those things well. There is no defining characteristic of this LSU offense because they try to do too much.

And we recruit to different types of offenses. We recruit small O-lineman and huge ones. QBs like Shepard who are spread QB's and Guys like Chris Garrett and J Lee who a drop back QBs. We have guys like Chuck Scott and Michael Ford and then guys like Richard Murphy, Holliday, and we're recruiting Lache Seastrunk.

UF recruits guys like Demps Rainey, Tebow (a spread QB), Thompson, and Debose who can burn. BAMA with guys like Ingram and Richardson who pound it. I mean, where is our identity? That is the problem imo.

Lack of Identity on Offense

Heard this topic on the post game show, and hadn't really though of it in this way before. We need to decide on one thing and do it to the best of our ability, not try multiple things. Here's the question though. We have a spread quarterback who is timid, inexperienced, and scared to make a mistake, and power running backs with plenty of experience but they don't always have running lanes. So, do we give the ball to the inexperienced player and hope he gains confidence and ACTUALLY CALL PLAYS TO HELP HIM GAIN CONFIDENCE like any kind of screen or giving him a back to check to, or do we rely more on our experienced players and base our offense around them by running out of the I, making the option a triple option, with the occasional surprise of RS and TH somewhere in the backfield and PRIMARILY use play action pass?

The problem in my opinion is that we lack a legitimate player at the QB position. End of story.

I think JJ is a pocket passer who happens to be mobile. I'm starting to think recruiting personnel is the problem. We have personnel for many different types of offenses. We need to stick with one type, recruit to it, and implement it and it only.

I think JJ can be very good. All the tools, seems like a good leader, hard worker, etc. Now development could be the issue so far. That's on the coaches.

This "identity" crap is BS IMHO. We need a decent scheme and a coherent game plan to focus on our strengths and exploit our opponent's weaknesses. We don't need a meaningless offensive mission statement, we need some game-day stratigery.

Locking us into a single style of offense for the sole purpose of giving us an "identity" limits our options for no tangible reason. Instead, we should gear our offensive scheme to doing what we do best.

Whatever the hell that is. I know its not the option, but that's about all I got on that.

Pretty much the meaning of "identity" in sports fwiw.

Did you see the same game I saw Saturday? Now granted, when the offense is going more "up-tempo", he does ok in the pocket, but when we do all that "check with me", no huddle crap and the defense has time to set itself, Jefferson is useless in the pocket if his first option isn't there.

He's definitely not a "Running" QB. He does get happy feet like most young QB's. A little of it has to do with the OL.

That's not what I got from your post. And "identity" in sports is usually coach mumbo-jumbo to avoid answering the tough questions, IMHO, FWIW, ASAP, USA.

Agreed. It is as though we never are attacking or attempting to exploit any weakness on a defense. Identity or scheme is definitely the issue with the offense.
