Same. Grew up listening to the games on AM radio back in the 70’s

There’s something about radio.
My Dad had season tickets in SW end zone in the 70s and 80s (U22 - long since replaced). We were two rows from the top of the section on about the 5-yard line - right next to the barricade where the lower west seats started. There was always a Marshall posted at that point.
Had overhead cover, under west upper deck - which was nice. There was a crew of New Orleans guys who bussed in who had season tickets for the top row - which was backed by a concrete wall with some chain fencing starting at about 5 feet from the ground.
One of them always brought a beat up hand held radio and strapped it to the fence with a piece of wire, so John Ferguson - and later Jim Hawthorne - were audible when the stadium wasn’t rocking. That piece of wire stayed fixed on that fencing for at least 20 years.
That was the absolute best.

One of my earliest memories was of my parents putting myself and my infant sister in bed with them and listening to a radio broadcast of LSU football in southern Vermillion parish in the late "50s. Been a fan since I can remember.

Listening to Jim Hawthorne call the games with my Dad at the deer camp are some of my fondest memories from as early as I can remember. Seems lik A lifetime ago.

WJBO, Baton Rouge, Walter Hill and John Ferguson. At the stadium, the voice of Sid Crocker.
"Doctor, No. 436. Doctor, No. 436, Please report to Medical Exchange...Today's game is chaperoned by the Istrouma Area Boys Scouts...Some finals from today's games:
Rutgers 38
Pittsburgh 13
(Mild cheer)
Georgia 23
Alabama 21
(Crowd roars)..."

Grew up an uptown NOLA kid listening to LSU football on WWL radio.(50,000 watt clear channel that for night games could be heard all over the country)
Those times and memories have made me a Tiger fan for almost 70 years.
I mute the TV now and listen to the LSU live stream broadcast.
(Thanks again to Tiger fan that told me how to "time" the TV with the LSU live stream announcer)

I grew up partly in San Antonio in the 80s I learned LSU football by charting the game on graph paper thanking God for the incredibly strong clear signal from WWL

WWL was the reason for the signature brand of LSU football. As a kid, I listened to J.C. Politz and John Ferguson. Ferguson's main line when a receiver was wide open was "He's was alone out there in the moonlight!"

Even while at LSU (late 2000s/early 2010s), if we didn’t go to the game, we would put the radio outside the apartment (on Burbank), open the blinds so we could see the TV and listen to the sound of the stadium along with the radio broadcast.
Then we would watch the play unfold on TV…was not a great way to consume the TJ Yeldon TD in 2012 but was great for many other home games during those 4 years.

Ill never forget being 10 years old listening on the porch to the bring back the magic game in 1995 against Auburn. What a fantastic night that was

Don’t remember my first game watched on TV but I sure do miss Jim Hawthorne

Was wondering who was going to bring up J. C. Many attribute Ferguson to making the Cannon call against Ole Miss . Actually it was Politz.

My Dad and I used to sit in the dark in the 50s and 60s listening to the radio broadcasts, he in his recliner and me on the couch. We would be hooting and hollering. I will never forget it, and I miss him.
Then later on, he was really bummed when Saban bolted to Miami.

We would be listening to 870 WWL in the dark a lot, or in the car driving back from wherever.
Amazingly we would pick up 870 on clear desert nights in Saudi Arabia on deployments..
