Termination at ESPN
On July 24, 2006, Harold Reynolds was fired from ESPN. The ESPN spokeswoman confirmed that Reynolds "is no longer with the network" but did not give a reason for the departure.[1] "Three people who work at ESPN and familiar with the case said the cause was a pattern of sexual harassment."[2] Reynolds called this incident "a total misunderstanding" and that "I gave a woman a hug and I felt like it was misinterpreted."[3]

It was announced on October 30, 2006, that Reynolds planned to sue ESPN after having tried "everything possible to handle this situation quietly behind the scenes," while stating that he is seeking the money owed to him under the remainder of his contract, including interest and lost earnings.[4] The Smoking Gun obtained a copy of Reynolds' contract that was filed as part of the lawsuit. Reynolds' lawsuit is for $5 million, roughly equivalent to the value of the contract Reynolds signed that was scheduled to cover the 2006–2011 seasons.

ESPN settled the case in April 2008, giving Reynolds a seven figure settlement (Portland Tribune, April 29, 2008). In a statement released on April 16, 2008, Reynolds said, "All of my goals were met and now I look forward to concentrating on the game I love."

Did not know for sure why he left or was fired for but, he was without a doubt the best when it came to the college game. But it was at that time that ESPN chose to go in other directions because they did not have anyone else to push College baseball like he did. I still say if for whatever reason he left College baseball would be more on the national scene now than it is. JMHO!

Agreed. Reynolds was great! I especially loved that old ESPN commercial spoofing City Slickers and Reynolds played the blonde chick in the movie. It was hilarious.

Harold Reynolds stayed at our hotel once so we would run into him from time to time and he was very friendly.

I make it a point not to get in the "personal space" of the TV guys, but I do converse with them when I see them and HR was one of the friendliest national announcers I've met.

To me by them paying Reynolds his money they mistreated him. I honestly think they did not want to push College baseball any longer and by them firing him gave them the edge on do away with College baseball and pushing LaCross which is liked more up in the Northeast than College baseball. I do not think they are going to allow peterson to push College baseball over LaCross because Peterson is more easy going than what Reynolds was when it came to Baseball. JMHO!

Then why did they pay the $ to cover the CWS?

i'm not so sure about this. seems the last few yrs they've shown more & more college baseball. every super being broadcast, 2 regionals...omaha...

pretty sure the HR firing was just do to trigger happy executives afraid of lawsuits and had nothing to do w/ college baseball.

You are correct IMO. That is what I was saying. Good luck on your push for 10,000 before first pitch tomorrow!

I agree. IMO, ESPN's payment to HR indicates that they made a mistake. If he was really damaged goods, I don't think he would be in the spotlight on MLB network. He is doing a great job there just like he did covering the CWS for ESPN.

I've decided 10000 before omaha is more reasonable

man I hope Bibona is rusty tomorrow. shite it took AR a month and a half to get back to somewhat normal. You can't tell me Bibona is gonna come back after a month off as sharp as he was before.

Yeah, you need some sleep and you must keep your post quality at a high level.

I am thinking the same thing.

When it comes to the coverage of the smaller revenue sports they are goint to cover the one that they get the biggest bang for their money. With College baseball not being the sport of the NE with the population up there they are going to take LaCross over baseball.

Back in the nineties ESPN covered the Tourny from start to finish. Because Harrold liked LSU so much just about all their games where on the either the main channel or ESPN2 and what they did not pick up Fox network would get the rest. But ESPN would carry the WS from the first pitch to the last.

Now I do to about Bibona, I do not see how he can come back and pick up where he left off. I believe LSU can out score them anyway if they keep up with the way they where hitting the ball last week.

ESPN still covers from start to finish. when they championship game use to be 1 game it would air on CBS or ABC, but since the best of 3 started it's been all ESPN 1 or 2.

Yes that is true but they covered the Regionals a lot better back then and where even expanding because of Harrolds pushing to cover more, but they gave it up and almost considered giving up College baseball all together and I am glad they did not. I wish they cover all the regional sites and treat it much the same way they do with Basketball tourny. But I do not think they want to be in the forefront of making College Baseball the next major sport. I believe they could do it without a lot of work but I think if they did it would be the end of their beloved LaCross which I dispise.

Reynolds was the best in the biz and there wasn't anybody even close. Peterson is excellent as well, I definitely enjoy him and Patrick in the booth. It doesn't matter who calls the games as long as LSU wins them

As an Omaha native still living in Omaha it is funny when you run into Kyle Peterson, and hear him talk about how he gets fed at the tailgate parties in Baton Rouge. He holds LSU in high regard, and he has great stories about his visits to LSU.

I think the change to the Super Regional format had a lot to do with the changes in coverage. To cover the first weekend they would have to be at 16 different sites. That would be pretty tough to do.

As long as Peterson doesn't start sexually harassing female ESPN staffers like Reynolds, he should be alright.
