The team he took over was 0-11.
It’s Michigan State, not Michigan, how many Big 10 titles do they have in their history?
Nick Saban was only unknown in 2000 if you didn’t follow football outside of a small radius of Louisiana and didn’t watch the NFL in the 90s.

Nick was 50, wore glasses and was obviously graying at the temples. He changed his look upon accepting the LSU job.

Saban was widely viewed as an up and comer. He was hardly an unknown.
He was getting interest from the NFL already.

Huh??????? George Perles was the coach before Nicky and they were 5-6 his last year...not 0-11 ! Saban was 6-5-1, 6-6, 7-5, 6-6, 9-2 his last season. Michigan State has won a lot more titles than you think apparently. A couple of these were shared Big 10 titles... 1965, 1966, 1978, 1987, 1990, 2010, 2012, 2015.

The best of the young coaches is Alex Golesh at USF. Hire him and see how he compares to Saban in 5 years. He is the best we can get and he is a HR hire, just like Saban.....and nobody knew at the time.

Alex Golesh Head Coach at South Florida. I think he’s an offensive minded coach.

Can we stop this lie?
He already had nfl teams considering him and had been at MSU for a few years. His team had just beat ohio state who was ranked #1. I was only 14 but knew exactly who he was and knew it was a good hire.
What are you talking about? He was an unknown, especially in the south. You couldn't find 20 people in the south who knew anything about him. Being courted by NFL teams? Do know how many coaches have been courted by NFL teams that turn out to be complete busts?
Tom Herman
Rich Rodriguez
Jeremy Pruitt
Derek Dooley
Scott Frost
Mike Riley
Charlie Strong
Charlie Weis
There have been a lot of coaches that were "can't miss" and turned out to be busts. We got lucky with Saban because he was a relative unknown.
