what really irks me is when former players on NFL games say they are from "Louisiana State" on the player intros.

Between this and the student section cursing, I don't even know how LSU fields a team.

Actually the new Mike is a Siberian-Bengal mix. But Mike, as people say is a Bengal.

also i like the Louisiana State. because im not sure what yall think LSU means but........i think you catch my drift.

also the Louisiana State Circle hats from the early 90's were the shite. I see they are coming back out with the Circle hat but it says LSU instead of Louisiana State now.

The University/College part is implied and seeing that we are the only Louisiana State (U) in LA, there is no confusion as to where they are from.

Chances are high that the only school most folks outside the South/SEC know of in Louisiana is LSU and that might irk the ULL/ULM/LaTech crowd

Very well stated. Back when Cholly Mac was coach he often wore a cap that had Bayou Bengals on it.

Still have one of those. It used to be much more common.

Bayou Bengals doesn't bother me. That's just a secondary nickname, and it sounds kind of cool.

I know fully that our school name is Louisiana State University, but LSU goes to great effort to brand itself nationally as LSU. That's what LSU ASKS to be called. It bothers me when people call us something other than what we want to be called.

As for the players in the NFL calling us "Louisiana State," I've pretty much given up on them ever calling us LSU. I guess LSU doesn't ask it of them, and/or they place no value on it. Unlike the players of "THE Ohio State University and "The U," who are on-board with branding their school.

Yeah yeah, I know... branding doesn't matter... blah blah blah whatever.

I was commenting about the identification part (and the lack of confusion by using either nomenclature). It is a weakening of the branding and I think LSU can make that request to any of the media and I am sure they would comply.

The problem is when Vern and co get excited during the game, they will forget branding issues and even names (RS instead of JJ)

I am sure the school can request the players and it is such a small thing , that I am sure that they would comply with the request.

I have a "tape" of the 2003 SEC Championship game with LSU and TN and Verne was calling them Louisiana State then; at the time LSU had been out of the "limelight" for about 10 years and I guess Vern called himself letting folks know, yes, there was a college in LA that plays football in the SEC...now it just seems annoying a tad...Yes we are "Louisiana State University" but most, if not all, know us by "LSU"....

It appears that you also would have been offended by the term Chinese Bandits which has gone the way of PC). The term you refer to is still around because no one has yet to come up with a way to offend bayous.

It bothers me as well. I never hear the term California Los Angeles for UCLA. It's just UCLA.
