Didn't expect them to come out and say, "Hey sorry about that, we were just kidding about the whole arrest"

A cop overreacted during a Mardi Gras parade and may have departed from procedure?

SHOCKING

The JPSO might be fricked in this case because they claim witnesses said they saw one of them throw a gun but no gun was ever found and no witness statements recorded. Also, it's not really that hard to believe that some undercover NARCs profiled some young black kids in the heart of a Metairie parade.

A St. Charles Parish Sheriff's Office detective has filed a formal complaint against the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office and one of its deputies following the arrest of her son and two other Destrehan High School students in early February.

quote:

According to an interview in Louisiana Weekly, Sampson's mother, Roanne Sampson, a detective with the St. Charles Parish Sheriff's Office, said her son was approached by a plainclothes undercover deputy who did not reveal he was a law enforcement officer and that David tried to get away from him.

quote:

Witnesses quoted by the paper said the incident was provoked by David calling his friend a derogatory name and the undercover officer misinterpreting it as being directed towards him at which time the officer told David to approach him. David reportedly ignored the order and kept on walking.

quote:

Det. Sampson said the deputy chased her son down, ripping his shirt off in the process, and slammed him over the hood of a car. According to her account it was not until after Jefferson and Sharpe tried to intervene and pull the deputy off of David that he identified himself as a police officer.

quote:

Sharpe told the Louisiana Weekly that he thought his friend was being attacked by a stranger for no reason and that is why he and Jefferson tried to get the man off their friend, but after he called out that he was a deputy he and Jefferson quit struggling with the policeman.

quote:

Collins said that David escaped but that he was able to tackle him after a lengthy chase through the parade route. As he was running, Collins alleged witnesses told him David threw a gun that was never recovered by officers.

quote:

Sampson told Louisiana Weekly that deputies shouted racial slurs at her son after his arrest. She also told the paper that she has alerted civil rights organizations and community leaders about her son's alleged mistreatment.

quote:

David is an honor's student at Destrehan who was nominated for the school's student of the year. He is also a member of the National Honor's Society and received the U.S. Marine Corps Scholar Athlete award. He played safety for the Wildcats last season and received first team all-district honors.

No doubt the officers were probably on edge during that time of year. But, if you think they just decided to go after an innocent group of kids, you would not be thinking clearly.
There is no way in hell they had no clue the officers were police.
I do not want to see innocent people get blamed on either side of the law.
Her alerting all those racially driven groups tells me alot. She is an investigator and knows how to try to get the charges dropped, by using the race card. Really pathetic...also towards the end it talks of several officers being present and backing up the story. But it doesn't match the high school kids' story? Color me shocked

You are probably right.

No way that an over tired cop would over react at a parade, especially if he heard an obscenity shouted, which as we all know is never done at parades.

And further, the racial record of the NOLA area police forces is totally clean in regard to racial incidents.

Yep. It's the kids fault.

Not saying that good kids don't sometimes do bad things, but the fact that the kid is apparently an all-everything academic scholar really hurts the JPSO's case.

Have to side with the kids on this one. They all appear to be all-academic everythings. Sounds like kids having fun until some plain clothes Narc starts hassling them. They didn't know he was a cop just some dude, so they obviously told him Frick off and attacked him when he attacked their friend.

He's undercover to catch real criminals not kids at a parade. He should have identified himself from the get go.

Never said anybody's fault. Clearly stated I want NO ONE innocent blamed for something they did not do.

That being said, if you think the cop reacted (rightly or wrongly) for NO reason, you aren't thinking clearly.

His mother is part of the police fraternity. If something wrong went on, it will be discovered. But to call in all these activist groups or racial groups every fricking time a kid gets arrested is just wrong. Weird those same groups don't show up if race is an issue the reverse situations.
