I feel like a lot of people take this as a personal insult when it is a business move.
This may be a game to you, but it is a living for Johnny. It is his livelihood.
If you were told you had to retire at 35 years old and you can get a job at 22 or at 23, which would you chose? You'd chose to get a job at 22. It's not a really hard concept.
I'm happy for Johnny. I hope for the best. I hope he is the next Tiger in the NBA.

Apparently, to many of the athletes at LSU, college athletics is a waste of time. They don't play the game because they love to compete, love to play with their teammates, and love to play the sport. The sport is just a means to get a paycheck.
If every kid in athletics had the attitude of, "I am only playing this sport so that I can make it to the next level", then we wouldn't have any organized sports at all.
Perhaps if a few of these early entrees into the professional ranks cared a tad bit more about winning, and less about "how much money can I make playing this game" then their teams would have more success on the field/court.
Not every early entry into the professional draft is the same. Some gave everything they had to their team while they were in school. Others did not.

Not sure what this has to do with anything.

Could you be any more dramatic, talk more out of your arse or be any more judgmental, by chance? You don't know dick about whether he loves to play with his teammates or not. And if he really thought LSU was such a waste of time, he would have left last year. Oh, and heaven forbid he pursue a paycheck for a skill he has. What an arse, AMIRITE?
Just admit that you selfishly want him to stay and play for LSU and don't actually give a shite about him or his future.

Why do people go to college?
TO BETTER THEMSELVES.
It is also in the best interest of the University for you to better yourself because it reflects well on the University.
Why do people feel like students "OWE" the school anything? JOB came to LSU out of choice. He could have gone nearly anywhere. He has done his best to make LSU a better basketball team. It's now his turn to go pro. Jesus.

Wait, so because they can get paid to do something it means they don't love it? Do you love your job? If so, you should do it for free to help your coworkers and company win.

Everyone in life wants to make it to the next level in whatever they do.

They can't care about winning/success and get paid while doing it?

It's got nothing to do with me being "selfish". My life will go on just fine whether LSU wins games or not.
Why did Andre Stringer stay for his senior year? Did he improve his draft status? Why did Shavon Coleman stay for his senior year? Surely he could have quit basketball and started getting paid in some profession. Perhaps financing, restaruant management, pipe fitting, or typewriter maintenance. The only real purpose of ahtletics is to make a career out of it. As soon as somebody, somewhere will pay you to play, you've got to go.

Love JOB but this is the best for all involved parties

You can do these things till you're 100. O'Bryant can play basketball till he is 35 or so... And he's in some of the best shape of his life.

Maybe because their opportunities to get play professionally were very limited?

I'm sure if someone offered them money to do something they loved, then they would have probably left.

Neither of them are anywhere near the pro prospect that JOB is. I'm sure if there was some mutual interest from the NBA, they'd have weighed their options. Apples to oranges.

OK?

For some it is. Some love doing it just for the hell of it. Some love playing and want to make a career out of it. Why is this so hard to understand?

Perhaps the most important point in all of this.
LSU won't magically disappear and/or tell JOB to frick off because he wanted to pursue a pro BBall career. His dream is to play professional basketball. Now is his best chance to give it a shot. He's making the right choice.

because he was a career 37% FG shooter over 4 years, which is terrible.
This board is so funny sometimes. There were like 10 threads thanking Stringer for what he has done at LSU, but everyone wants to shite on JOB for going pro. JOB was 10x's the player Stringer was for LSU. Hating on a guy because he actually has a shot to play pro ball? Huh? WTF
maybe if JOB's brother posted here, everyone would suck him off too. AT least he would deserve it based on his play on the court

How does Donovan at Florida get his kids to stay? He's got 4 seniors on this years team. What's his secret?

That's an opinion. My opinion could be wrong, your opinion could be wrong.
My opinion on the entire topic is that a sure fire, top round draft pick (relative to that sport's draft) who has played up to their potential should by all means make a jump if they choose to do so. I have no issues with that at all. However, players who had up and down careers, sometimes took games off, sometimes showed up to play out of shape, but are still a marginal draft prospect based off of potential should stay in school until they become a dominant player game in and game out. If you can't dominate on a consistant basis on the college level, you will have a hard time making it at the next level.
The above comments are my opinion on all LSU sports. This is not specifically limited to JOB. He does not fit all of the above criticisms. It was a general statment that would fit the shoe size of some LSU players across many sports in the past. As stated earlier, opinions can be wrong. But I am still free to have that opinion.

I don't know a ton about the individuals, but none of them really jump out as pro prospects. Patric Young is the 2-time SEC scholar athlete of the year, so he probably cares more about getting his degree than most. Wilbekin had some pretty serious discipline/maturity issues to overcome and his game doesn't really translate all that well to the next level. He plays great defense and is a great team player, but not an offensive threat.
I don't know a ton about Yeguette or Prather, but I know that on the surface, they don't scream NBA. The simple fact is that they all play extremely well together and they play great team defense. Not necessarily that they have a ton of eye-popping talent.

Because none of them were going to be drafted as juniors.
As a junior Prather averaged 6.2/3.7. Yeguette barely played. Wilbekin is undersized point guard who averaged 9.1/5a. And Young is a 6-9 center who will likely only be a banger/rebounder if he makes it to the next level.

So if JOB doesn't get drafted he made the wrong choice?
(I'm not saying he won't get drafted, but there is a possibilty that he doesn't)

Not necessarily, he'll have a career playing basketball professionally somewhere for a few years. And there's a ceiling on his draft grade, those guys from Florida all improved their chances of playing professionally by coming back.
There's not much more for Johnny O to grow as a college basketball player.
