This may be the most pointless argument I have ever been involved in. Am I really defending JJ from these so-called fan assholes again?

I'm surprized there aren't more people pissed with ESPN on this one. JJ's answer is embarrassing, but I guarantee there are a lot of college atheletes that would miss easy history questions. If they want to know about education, why aren't they giving all atheletes they interview pop history quizes?
Smear job on LSU IMO. Shame on ESPN.

Come on, they told him everyone was named Jefferson. Only 1 President has been Jefferson and he should have known it. I'm not going to bash the guy because it's pointless, but I don't think ESPN intentionally did that, even though they painfully hate LSU obviously.
They did lob up a softball with Richard Jefferson though

no, you're making excuses for dumb kids.

Man is not obvious the kid got George Washington/Thomas Jefferson mixed up in the heat of the spotlight?
I watched that deal too, and thought he came off as a humble, classy kid with his head screwed on straight.
With as much heat as that kid has taken from "fans", he's had every reason in the world to fold. Instead, he suits up every game, puts his head down, takes hits, keeps his mouth shut, stays out of trouble, and represents LSU much better than I would have as a frat star in 1984.
He's going to surpise us ALL this year, me included, and I can't wait. He's the freaking Les Miles of SEC quarterbacks. Underappreciated. Underestimated. Given no credit for wins, and all the blame for losses.
Screw the haters JJ. Keep doing what you're doing. Keep pushing. Keep learnings. There are great things in store for you on the field this year!

i, for the record (if anyone cares), do not hate JJ. i think he's a horrible qb but i hope he improves and wins games for us. i think he's a good kid but just not the brightest. i wish him nothing but the best. i'll still take him over JLee anyday of the week.

I had to google him.

I'm not saying JLee is the greatest but if you take him everyday over JLee LSU has at least 4 losses last year.

I don't hate JJ by any means, but I will at least credit Lee with more contribution than Jefferson had against Florida and Tennessee.
You cannot deny that Jefferson but up horrific numbers last year. Of course this has nothing to do with what happened on ESPN though

I swear to Gawd that kid would a much better quarterback if he felt like the fans embraced him as OUR GUY.
I'm not a polly anna sorta guy, but I really wish we'd give him at least one year of that support, if for no other reason, just to see what happened.
He came in on the heels of losing Perilloux, etc, and has had to have always felt like a 2nd choice/fiddle. No wonder the guy's frowning all the time. He's not sure if he's really supposed to be there.

You feel that way for Lee as well? Lee was thrown into the fire in 08 after Perrilloux was dismissed. Both he and JJ have been through the ringer in their time here.

I don't want either to start the whole game but JJ seems to be the best option for a huge opening game. I would have a short leash on him this year. Unless he improves dramiticly he needs to grab some pine and anyone who says otherwise has other reasons why they would want him to start. He may be good but he hasn't been able to play like it consistantly. He is holding his team back.

If that is his problem he should quit playing sports right now. Production=being embraced by fans.

Agreed. He has, many times, not looked good - to the point of being inexplainably bad.
But give the coaches some credit. If they believe he's the guy that gives us the best chance to win, I'm going to trust that choice of the coaches.
And I'ma get behind him, root for him, hope he does well, hope he leads our team effectively, plays to his potential, and keep figuring it out at least enough to bring us 11 wins like last year.
You'd have to blind to say he's been an awesome quarterback the whole time he's been here, but this is NOT about trying to polish a turd.
It's about getting behind a guy that's what, 21 year's old, and could gain something ON THE FIELD if he thought 90,000 folks had faith in him.
Many people rise to the level of expectation placed upon them, especially when it's backed by the support of others in achieving that expectation. He deserves that.

He should have but you give too much credit to student atheletes (and the universities they attend in general but thats a whole new thread). Look at the link earlier in the thread with the USC players.

ETA: Oh, I get it now. Thank God he got that one.
