As many of you have already said on this forum, noting "close to the program sources", Les is gone. I confirmed this last night while talking to a very high level TAF booster. In his words, "enough of the money people are tired of this act." He went on to say that the money is already in place to make a change. He didn't say anymore than that on the subject, so I didn't push.

Now, that being said, here's my take on the way things are unfolding:

As you all know, the person out front is almost always just a distraction and is usually NOT the final choice or even the focus of the search.

Believe me when I say that I'd love to have Jimbo back at LSU running the football program, but if history predicts future, then he is a smokescreen and the real candidate has yet to be revealed.

I have no idea who this candidate is, or if Jimbo really is the focus of their search. I'm just saying, "Let's look back at all of the coaching hires at LSU (both head coaches and assistants), and think about it."

Baton Rouge sports-media seems really, really confident that Jimbo is leaving Florida State for LSU.

... but I don't see it that much, that often, from major sports writers.

It does make me wonder if this isn't a huge smoke-screen for another move.

Said on his show recently that he is happy at FSU. Loves it there. So, either that is just so much theater or LSU has some other coach in mind.

Jimbo is no doubt in the mix but if moves are being made, they've probably already put out feelers to a few guys.

Jimbo and Saban have the same agent, Jimmy Sexton, this will get interesting and the Tigers could get left at the altar. FSU WILL up the ante. Dangerous territory here. Hope Alleva is ready to get played like a fiddle.

And we must, of course, believe everything that a coach says at this time of year.

For example.. "I will not be the coach at Alabama"

Not saying that he is or isn't coming here, but you really cannot put much stock into anything that a coach says at this time.

I don't think Alleva is capable of playing the game, much less winning it.

He will get played... Probably more than once before this is over.

Hmmm. Your post rattled my memory cage. The coaching carousel has changed a lot in the past 25 years. I recall the very public spectacle Jeremy Foley made when he was looking for a replacement for Spurrier. Flew to Norman. Bob Stoops turned him down. Flew to Denver. Mike Shanahan turned him down. Flew to New Orleans. Ron Zook accepted the offer.

ADs have become better at hiding their actions since then, but still there is normally some sense of who they will hire.

Seems to me the last true surprise was when Nick Saban was introduced at LSU. My memory may be failing me, but I seem to recall that when he walked out onto the platform to be introduced nobody even knew he was a candidate, much less that he was in Louisiana.

Am I remembering that correctly, or even close?

Maybe LSU does have a surprise coming. Maybe Pete Carroll will walk out onto the stage. (Just kidding about Carroll.)

Selecting Jessica Alba over a HS Homecoming queen is a possibility. You might love the Homecoming queen, until you get a shake at Alba. You have to watch the words used very carefully. What Jimbo has said and has not said is what makes me think it may be him, more than anything else.

I think there's a lot more to it than just matching his pay. If I understand everything I've read recently, FSU basically has him handcuffed financially for the rest of his staff. I would think that's kind of a big deal for some coaches.

I just do not think Kelly would come to LSU and do not think he would fit well, but who knows. I do know that Miles will not make things better.

My take on this is Jimbo is taking some heat at FSU for the football sex scandal that is breaking. Sexton steps in and says to Jimbo. I can turn this situation around for you, get you affirmation and a big raise.
This is just typical JS routine. Nothing new or unique here to see. How many times has Sexton pulled this routine at LSU and Bama with Saban.
