Thanks for reminding me.
He's even worse covering baseball and basketball.

So was John F, but he turned over the keys at some point. Furgerson had just as long a tenure and was prolly more so the voice of the Tigers since far fewer games were on tv back then, but we adapted to the wonderfully talented and enthusiastic Jim Hawthorne. Jim still retains the enthusiasm and love of the Tigers, but his talent has degraded significantly.

It is time to pass the torch once again. Jim has served us well, but his performance is way below SEC championship level.

you know ill admit i dont listen to games in full length,,, i do catch inside LSU football, pregame and post game..and I honestly I think all of you bitching about the man, are off base. I've met JH several times, talked with him exclusivly on away trips as around BR, man loves LSU and represents us in the professional way. Good thing yall arent the decision makers for LSU. JH not going anywhere, so do us a favor and stfu.

I'd like to watch a relative of Mr. Hawthorne shove something up your rear and then push it up further with something else before pushing it in further with a stick of some sort. No offense intended,

Damn, I would hate to know what you would post if you did intent to offend!!!

It seems sacrilegious to bash the Voice of the Tigers the way some of you have, show some respect!

You are right, but I would rather listen to him than some second rate anouncer on TV, and besides he is LSU Sports.
I still like his voice, and to have him call games.

Lay off Jim, There is no one more dedicated to the
Tigers than Jim. I grew up with Jim and he is a class guy.

I was listening to an LSU vs. La. Tech game on the radio a few years ago and to hear Hawthorne you would have thought LSU was struggling. He had me thinking the whole game we (LSU) were screwing up and Tech was just unlucky but almost clearly the better team.

I had recorded the game. When I watched it it was clear LSU dominated and the game wasn't even close to how Hawthorne described it on the radio.

On one play he did one of his classic "Wiiiide open" calls on a La. Tech receiver. Couldn't have been further from the truth. The Tech receiver was WELL covered but made a great catch.

And poor Doug has to constantly correct and babysit him.

for all you youngsters that are always willing to fall for "what's new" as if "new" was better a few thoughts things:

1) new is not better,
2) how would you like it if your job ended just because some youngsters did not appreciate the job you do AND HAVE DONE for many years.
3) there is something to LOYALTY and accumulated knowledge...should we force YOUR retirement at will after you have paid your dues with a firm?
"Revenues" are not affected by his performance...just opinions..and they are like A$# holes, everyone has one.
4)before you start bitching about Hawthorne, as some of you do about everything else, listen to other announcers in the SEC, be fair.

I agree...then some of you can rejoice, 'till then...leave tradition alone.

Jim has been crap for atleast 5 years. Look, I love my grandpa, but it doesn't mean he's not past his prime.

I'm looking for specifics. He's usually good for 2 or 3 frickups per game. In the old days, I have to say though Jim, I loved ya and listened to you every game, you were the voice of LSU football.

plus if you have ever seen him walk into the stadium he goes with either a paper bag (fifth of whiskey) or a flask in his back pocket...
If true that is hysterical.
