Here's all you need to know about the play. WR makes his cut, ball still in hand
The WR hasn't even made his cut yet, and ball is away

Because of the coverage you idiot. Slightly underthrown and it's a pick 6. Which I am sure you would have loved.
In an situation of tight under coverage you throw it deep. OOOOOOPS there is back coverage too. Then you throw the fu cking ball away.
You never played football did you?
7th grade PE doesn't count.
Example 2 is different coverage. You are either blind or totally absent of any football knowlege to not see the difference.

It's not the same route, play, or formation

Or remotely the same defensive set up.
He's just another of the disgruntled JJ Basher Brigade sneaking out from under his rock.

I just rewatched the game. This time Miles put Sheppard at QB and JJ in the slot. Sheppard threw a lob to himself for the TD and JJ tore his jersey open like Superman.
Hold-on; T-Bob moved again. 5 yard penalty. Damn it! Upon running the 3rd down again JJ held on to the ball too long again and had to throw it away.

Of all the dumb statements in this thread, this is possibly the dumbest.
The ball needed to be delivered as he broke. Otherwise he doesn't have enough space to catch it before going out of bounds
REGARDLESS OF THE ROUTE, PLAY OR FORMATION!!!
Oh and if NoCommon Cents is your chief supporter, time to re-think your thought

You say tuh-may-toe, I say tuh-mah-toe, let's call the whole thing off.
It's not just different terminology.
A fade route is not an out route. It's two completely different routes.
Moreover, it's two completely different passing techniques for the QB. The fade is a lofted pass. The out is on a rope.

Here's all you need to know about the play.
quote:Randle made his cut five yards deep in the endzone directly toward the sideline. That's an out route. It was covered.
WR makes his cut, ball still in hand
quote:Wrong. Look at the video again. Toliver had just made his cut. Toliver took two shuffle steps for about a yard, and then angled directly away from the QB. His cut was about 45 degrees from straight down the field. That's a fade. The pass is lofted so it must be thrown early to arrive on time.
The WR hasn't even made his cut yet, and ball is away

Thanks for trying to help...but if they don't understand after 17 pages, they will never understand.
If only they had played football before

I don't have to look at the video to see that RR is about 4 strides from the sideline. The ball should already be on its way, in order for Randle to control it in enough time to get a foot down. If he has to stop, the pass gets deflected or intercercepted.
The fact that JJ threw it 5 yards out of bounds, proves JJ knew he waited too late. Therefore, I don't really care what your speculation is, I saw the result with my own eyes.

I watched this play again last night and I stand corrected. JJ did in fact hold on to the ball a bit too long. If he makes that throw as soon as RR cuts it's a TD. Timing just isn't there.
Thanks for putting up the video
The hitch that Jefferson demonstrated was when Florida's #9 undercut the route. That is when he "chunked" it out of bounds. If #9 stays on the inside, he throws the ball to RR because #5 was on his back and RR comes back to the ball for a TD.
If the out route would have been the first option and JJ did the same hesitation, then I would agree. Florida just had the right defensive call.

That would be a "fade" and that was not the play called.
I am going to go back through this thread tonight when I get a good buzz going and I am going to write down every poster who commented who thinks it was supposed to be a "fade" and make a list...so I can know to ignore all your football comments because you know nothing...except maybe how to draw on pictures and expose yourself as not knowing how to play Grown Man Football.
