Jarrad Randal true freshman, could turn out to be better. Who Knows. Jordan Jefferson much better than Marcus Randal however. Not even in same ball park. Not to knock Marcus though. He was playing out of position for the good of the team as we were very short of QB's at the time. Probably could have played strong safety.

I was pretty young, but I seem to remember Randall holding up alright against SEC teams. I remember seeing him against South Carolina right after Mauck's injury in 2002, as well as against Florida in 2004.

Without checking our roster I believe he also had better o-line than JJ has had.

As much as I ground my teeth in many games MR played, the 2004 game vs AR was my favorite with him at QB. Good day passing, but more lasting was he and Broussard running over the Piggies that game, it was like two road graders at work. I would take MR over the body of work of JJ to this point, which may or may not be extended. Both were/are very average with some dreadful performances thrown in to boot.

might be physically more talented but certainly not better in games.

Say what you will. BUT JJ>>>>> Randall as far as wins go. Isn't that all that matters????

would the 04 team have been better if jj had been the qb?

Very possible. He would have had the same Oc for a while and Saban would have made it simpiler for him. PLUS JR was there.

I remember Randall as quality individual who would never been out breaking curfew with the season on the horizon. His skill set was adequate. It was really by accident that he started any games. Mauck's injury in '02 and then his decision to forego his senior forced Randall into action.

but his inconsistency was still better than Jefferson's consistency.

That's kind of like saying Crowton was better than Jimbo.

Randall is still a better athlete than Jefferson. You thinking of him as being so terrible is idiotic.

lol blaming the cotton bowl on randall is laughable. i dont like randall or jj but the 02 cotton bowl is in no way randalls fault. texas was the better team

This is correct. People also forget Randall played hurt in this game. It was actually close at 21-17 at the half, and then Randall got hurt. He tried to play hurt and the defense couldn't stop Roy Williams whatsoever and that is why we lost, not Randall.

Same thing in the Cap One bowl game in 2004. Randall wasn't horrible, 10/15 for 89 yards, but got hurt in the 1st half, and that's when Flynn was put in.

So two of the big games, he had to play hurt or got hurt and people hold it against him.

Reminds me of the Auburn game last year where people claim Lee played so horribly and choose to ignore that he busted the wrist on his throwing hand early in the game when T-Bob pulled his usual turnstile blocking letting Fairley kill Lee.

Both QBs are about even statistically, but Randall was a real leader unlike Jefferson (which is sad to say).

Jeff is so much better than Randall its not funny. Randall had no business playing QB but at the time we had no choice. I thought Randall was actually drafted to play a different position in the NFL

Here is the clue Randall was actually drafted by an NFL team. JJ highly doubtful even if the rumours about him being charged and suspended are incorrect!

Randall actually was signed not drafted to play saftey/cb. Sure he was a better athlete but as a qb he was just plain bad. with better play calling from the sideline jeff can reproduce the cotton bowl performance consistently

So this was a wild arse guess based on exactly zero real information.

Marques Randall could never put together a performance like JJ did in the cotton bowl or against Alabama. JJ better QB than Marcus. Marcus better athlete than JJ.
