Jayden Daniels signed his rookie contract with the Washington Commanders on Friday, the next step in becoming the team's franchise quarterback.

The Heisman Trophy winner out of LSU was the second pick in the NFL draft. As a result, the contract is worth $37.75 million for four years with a $24.3 million signing bonus and a fifth-year team option for the 2028 season.

Coach Dan Quinn has not named Daniels as the Commanders’ starting QB, instead saying training camp will be an open competition with veteran Marcus Mariota. But Daniels figures to win that competition and become Washington’s eighth Week 1 starter at the position in as many seasons.

quote:

“One of the things that I love about him is he’s got this demeanor about the execution, about the confidence,” Quinn said this week. “He’s got a swagger to him. He really has a very firm handle on the things that we’re doing, but he also has the humility of a young player. And so I thought, ‘What a cool combination to have this presence as an older player, but yet the humility of the new and younger player, knowing that he has a lot to prove.’”

It's great to see a young black kid in America over come the inherent bigotry and racism and rise to the top. Can't wait to watch him on Sundays.

I’m definitely pumped up to see him play.

I just pray he doesn’t get hurt. He won’t make the season if they don’t scheme right to keep him upright. Outrunning NFL LBs won’t be like college. Some of those guys run 4.3 - 4.4 40’s. They are big safeties for the most part.

Those are "rookie numbers" has never applied so fittingly. Imagine in 3 years, with slightly above average play, a semblance of hope and confidence from the front office(The Trevor Lawrence precedence), that $37.75 million could be $300 million over the same span of time. At least half up front. America is great isn't it?

What does he mean by this? I like Jayden and will enjoy watching him play, but this is just stupid.

quote:

He was talking about the magnitude of the spotlight once you go to college and the pros, the intensity and the preparation it required. He also meant the microscope it puts you under, especially as a Black man.

quote:

In every conversation that led up to that point, he was teaching me, essentially, how to be a man. And not only how to be a man, but how to be a Black man, knowing everything that comes with it.

I think you ended him and set the record without shaming the idiot. However, next time it may be good to post the source to avoid confusion.

Obscene numbers for anyone that has never played a down in NFL, or anywhere doing anything.

I knew it was bad over there but I didn't realize it was THAT bad. I wonder if they regret playing hardball with Kirk Cousins as much as they did and letting him get away. He's gotta be better than anyone they've had since and he was the best QB they had in quite a while when he was there.

Regardless, I wish Daniels the best, as Washington hasn't exactly been a source of fortune for QBs recently so I hope he can turn that trend around. At least McLaurin is a good weapon he'll have to start his career.

None of what he quoted aligned with his original claims of jayden claiming bigotry and racism. At all.

I apologize though. I have to remember that just because people can read words doesn't mean they can understand them.

Only an idiot brings race into this. He’s a great young man. Not a great young black man. Grow up.
