So I was not able to find anything further back than last year but Arizona was ranked 196th in errors made per game. I’m assuming that wasn’t a one off though. Maybe somebody else could find the rest of the data on a paid site. Currently lsu is around 250th in errors made. Is this just a problem Jay Johnson teams will always have? What could be the reason that this happens?

Larger emphasis on hitting as opposed to fielding = not enough high quality reps.

Thanks. Yeah so this seems to be a consistent issue and something we should expect won’t change unfortunately.

I went in and updated. lsupride's numbers. Anything in bold was added to his original post.

As we can see, JJ's defense leaves a shite ton to be desired. It will keep biting us in the arse no matter how many years he gets here. 22% of his coaching career, he has had a good to very good defense. That is atrocious

Errors were an issue last year as well. I don't think this is inherently a JJ problem as it sits today. Time will tell.

Idk if that is exactly a transitory stat to be fair. Also, he's got essentially the same roster as last year. Those players aren't just going to get magically better defensively by bringing in a new coach.

No, but they aren't going to magically become 10x worse either. Unless that coach does not put enough emphasis on defense.
