Hate to admit it but Whitlock's right about Burrow. I sensed his desire to push the envelope on social issues a few years ago and simply wrote it off as a young qb trying to find acceptance from his peers on the football field.
But the arrogance that his opinion should be amplified and folks should follow his cue is going to eat him up with his followers and fans.
Take Jason's advice Joe...stay in your lane!

Not going to be popular here but Whitlock is 100% consistent on calling out Athletes who get on Social Media to try to create followers by pushing their political perspective, whatever that perspective is.

Joe Missed all the minicamps and did not have much preseason with his WR's. He has been sacked I think 12 times in 2 games. I watched both games and I am going to say what I see Joe is holding the ball too long and focusing on Jamar too much to get open even when Chase is getting bracket coverage vs. recognizing that Jamar is covered and it is going to take too long for him to uncover and going to progression 2 or 3.

He has regressed since last season, now maybe that again is being rusty by not going through the thousands of reps this summer with all the WR's but all of those sacks were not on the Bengals OL, in my opinion.

I mean Micah Parsons has legitimately never seen before pass rush success numbers through the first two weeks of the season, based largely on how much he dominated La’el collins last week.

Not saying burrow is blameless, certainly the offensive playcalling and protection schemes are not, but Micah Parsons and TJ watt destroyed collins everytime it was an obvious passing play.

So are y’all going to cancel our only modern day Heisman winner over politics just like you did Drew Brees?

These threads are where you realize a lot of LSU and Saints fans are more fans of Team Maga than they are fans of lsu and the saints.

Couldn’t imagine living my life so ate up with shite like that but if that’s what gets people through the day I guess.

Can one both cheer for burrow and hope he does well because of the great things for lsu and also think his political points are idiotic? Is that allowed?

I think I was clear, all of those 12 sacks were not on the OL which means all of them were not on Joe Burrow. He has since he has been in the NFL, even last year, held on to the ball longer than most QB's. I think last year some analytics stats were out there that showed that fact.

I haven't seen the analytics on Joe vs. the other 31 QB's this year on how long He is holding on to the ball vs those 31 other starting QB's but I suspect it will likely be similar to what the numbers were last year.

And he doesn't have CJ Uzomah at TE who was always an Intermediate trustworthy target that he could get the ball to and Uzomah could take a 10 yard catch and add 10 to 15 too it.

Ole Number 7 Alan Risher always use to tell Hanny back in the day on the Post game show that a Good TE who can block and Catch is a QB's best friend to get the ball to if the longer routes are not going to be there or can't develop.

I think Joe is missing Uzomah big time.

Joe holds the ball on average 2.2 seconds. The 3rd least amount for any starting QB…..

The “he is holding the ball too long” narrative is just dumb for the first two games

You certainly can, but that’s not the tone of a lot of the responses in here about him or Brees.

I think it’s also patently absurd to say he’s failing as an NFL QB because he gave a couple of interviews where he mentioned he was pro choice and pro gun control. You would think he was like skipping practice to go protest NRA conventions based on this reaction.

Also just from a football perspective it’s two games where they scored 17 and 20 points against good defenses. Brady and the Bucs have scored less total points. So have Rodgers and the packers. But for a missed XP he led go ahead and game tying drives in both games. Games in which Micah parsons and tj watt destroyed his LT every pass play.

It’s just an absurd take that Whitlock wrote for clicks and a board full of lsu fans siding with Whitlock and bashing Joe because “let’s go Brandon” isn’t surprising, but it’s pathetic

Why?

I have no idea. On here, social media, wife's (no pics) FB, it's only white liberals always bashing him. I guess it's a he played college in Louisiana, redneck state, type thing, dunno. White liberals typically bash successful people (except celebrities), not sure why Burrow though, since he seems to be one himself. Sure he's a celebrity, but he's also young and lives in Ohio. I personally don't care who he votes for or what his opinions are, I'm thankful for the championship and still root for him. All my liberal friends except one despised him when he was in college, weird since most were LSU fans, never understood it.

I think it’s ridiculous of Whitlock to compare him to Kaep, and also to think his statement are the reasons for any struggle this season

But I ageee the overall idea burrows need for political statements and his flashy outfits and persona aren’t a positive thing for his football IMHO

In 1998, Whitlock was suspended for heckling fans at a Kansas City Chiefs game.
"he was fired altogether from ESPN as a result of his remarks"
"that Whitlock "reinforced the insipid and insidious 'small Asian penis' stereotype.[8] The Asian American Journalists Association demanded an apology. Later, Whitlock said, "I debased a feel-good sports moment. For that, I'm truly sorry."[9][10]"
"ESPN announced that Whitlock would no longer serve as the editor in chief for 'The Undefeated', replaced on an interim basis by Leon Carter, the editorial director for the site.[13] In October 2015, Whitlock's employment at ESPN ended."
"it was announced that Fox would not renew Whitlock's contract after the two sides couldn't come to an agreement."
""Do not believe anything written or said about me unless I say it. All else is Fake News."[17] A month later, he gave an interview to Front Office Sports in which he said, in part, "It was a bad business deal, a byproduct of my failure to properly vet my business partners."[18]"

I think most fans did not cancel Drew and are not going to cancel Joe Burrows. Only those in the extreme tails of the distribution who are on Twitter and other social media everyday.

But when you enter the public sphere, then any criticism you get is part of the fact that you entered the public sphere.

I was listening to Finebaum talk to the Coach of Arkansas, Pittman and Finebaum noted the Arkansas media are saying Pittman could run for Governor and was he interested in politics.

Pittman did not even go into the Political angle with Finebaum and stated right now coaching Arkansas he has 100% of the people in the state behind him, once you get into politics, half the folks are going to be against you.

Tubberville came up in the discussion and Pittman said he visited with him in DC and he and Tubby talked football for 90 minutes. When Pittman asked him about how he liked being a Senator, Tubberville's mood totally changed.

I actually agree vis a vis the outfits and partying with a bunch of rappers shite. At least if the team continues to struggle and he keeps doing that.

I think it’s very premature at this stage. I also think the politics stuff is way overblown in terms of it being something he’s like super focused on and distracting him. It’s just included to get people all riled up, successfully to be fair

Show me those stats because Pro football Focus and Pro Football Reference documented that in 2021, he was under Pressure 24% of the time. So far this year, the number is 18%.

I just read that this morning.

Here are the grades through week 3 and the Athletic, which is cited in this article is suggesting he is holding the ball too long. So maybe your 2.2 is correct, but if the other 10 guys ahead of him are at 2.0, then....

% Under pressure and time taken to throw are not correlative stats. In fact they often have an inverse relationship.

I.e. Burrow is under pressure less because he’s throwing the ball quicker.

Now maybe he’s getting happy feet or a quick trigger because of how often Watt and parsons blew up his line, but the one thing he isn’t doing is taking too long to throw.
