quote:Then why did you chose the geography part of my response to make fun of (mistakenly) instead of responding to the cultural part, where I said, "yes", because compared to Louisiana, where I live is very "Northern."
I wasn't talking about geography you asshat.

quote:I disagree (obviously). I know very well how people are in the deep south. I also know how people in the deep south are perceived, and how those perceptions are magnified, exaggerated and blown up to foster misconceptions about the south and the people there. There are portions of the population of DC and Northern Virginia (white and black) who are absolutely convinced -- by rhetoric exactly like yours -- that far more than 90% of the white population of the south holds extremist racist views, including but not limited to the desire to kill and/or enslave all african-americans. There are people who seriously believe that because people like you maintain that impression by shouting racism every time someone disagrees with you and an african-american is involved.
just that you don't have a clue how people are in the deep south
Yes, there are racists and there is racism. But there is far more perception of racism than existing racism. And when people like you label as "racist" everyone who doesn't think a particular black quarterback is as good as you think he is, you promote and encourage that perception. If you want the world to believe that there is nothing but racism in the South, then your rhetoric makes sense. If you want to present or engage in a reasonable discussion about race relations in the south, then your rhetoric is totally counterproductive.
But whatever your intent is, this has nothing to do with football or LSU, so I'm done with it. Think about it if you like, or don't. I can't make decisions for you, all I can do is tell you what impact your message has because I see it every day.

I have begun to notice some homosexual undertones in Doc's obsession with Lee. Methinks theDoc doth hate too much.

The whole thread is pretty ridiculous, but anyone who says that DC is the south, then brings up the Mason-Dixon to prove their point, is just crazy. I understand you desperately wanted to win the argument, but I really stopped listening to anything you said after saying that DC was the south. As far as the Jarrett Lee thing, eh, don't care.

quote:When I said, "DC is still technically 'in the South,'" you really thought that I was saying "DC is the South"? Seriously? And right after I'd just said I "for sure" live up north compared to Louisiana? You really thought I was saying that DC was culturally southern? Honestly?

Joey, you live up north, do you not?

"North" compared to Louisiana, for sure. But DC is still technically "in the South."

No, I don't honestly think that anyone thinks that DC is "the South", what I think is that you answered a silly question with a stupid answer and then tried to back that stupid answer by bringing in the Mason-Dixon line to make yourself feel better.
The truth is that if anyone on an LSU message board asks if you're from the north, everyone in their right mind knows that "north" means north of SC. So the answer that you gave was just asinine.
