I was sitting behind the 3rd base dugout and had a pretty good view of this play. I never once thought he trapped the ball but the umpire obviously thought otherwise. The player involved will usually look immediately at the umpire if he didn't make the catch (or if he's unsure) and Mitchell never once glanced in his direction. Unfortunately, they never did show the replay on the scoreboard. I'll be looking for it on the 10 o'clock news and just wanted other opinions.

I was sitting near you and it looked like a catch to me also. I think the ball did move a little in the glove and the ump must have thought it bounced off the ground. I'll be watching the sports tonight too to see if it was a catch. I left the Box on Friday thinking they'd blown the call on Mitchell's double, but the replay showed they got it right.

Good point. My friend said the exact same thing and I agreed with him.

Yeah, it's very nice. However, much like Tiger Stadium, it seems like they shy away from showing the controversial plays.

They won't show controversial replays, which sucks.

football will they just will not show it over and over.

Today they absolutely refused to show it one time, which seems really fricking stupid

Which might be a good thing. I was ready to go ballistic and I'm tame compared to some of the other hot heads out there.

Yeah, but I swear there have been some plays they just didn't show. And I agree, they could have at least shown it once. They sure showed the replay of Mitchell getting picked off at first (although it wasn't even close).

The umpires have the right to tell LSU to stop ALL replays of EVERY play even the non-controversial plays. So to keep them able to show replays they dont show the controversial plays over so it doesnt get to that.

Hawthorne said it was an SEC rule that they cant show questionable calls on the replay screen

I also love how Mitchell just treated it as a routine play. He truly acted like there was no question about the legitimacy of the play.

I remember the year against Bama when they had to show it over and over because the morons forgot who had possession ( this was before instant replay)

I was right there with you and I remember that ref taking a peek at the screen (thanks to everyone in the stadium pointing at the screen) Thankfully, they eventually did get it correct.

Yeah, I figured there had to be some kind of rule against it.

and the pentalty if you do show them is they can take away all replays of any kind. Like just doubles or replays of any kind.

Lord knows that Slive doesn't want it reaffirmed how he can't hire officials who call the game correctly...

That was a catch. I wanted to punch somebody when that umpire came running out ruling no catch. J Mitch made an outstanding defensive play to be taken away from him for no reason. I would bet my house that he caught that ball. 100% great effort and concentration. Good job JM, poor job umpire.
