trent basically ruined any chance of a 1 year turn around with his lazy arse recruiting.
His crappy timing of leaving ruined a 1 year turnaround more than anything.

Seriously, why would Scott Drew ever leave Baylor? Whatever we offer, Baylor will match. He has a consistent tourney team, and is at a school where football is weak. He is king of the castle, so to speak, at Baylor. What does LSU offer that Baylor will not?

So because of that, we shouldn't even offer him? And settle for a mediocre Sun Belt coach instead?

Why would you leave a consistent top tourney team to go to a school where basketball has been 3rd string for 10 years? Put yourself in that guys shoes.

Would it make you feel better if he turned us down then we hired Johnny Jones?
Posted on 4/8/12 at 10:20 pm to CerealKilla
id feel better if drew, dixon, marshall, and smart turned us down before we settled for jones.
he isn't a bad coach but why not make the big names say no before we settle on a coach?

Once again, I'll ask: Is that a legitimate reason to not even approach him?
You don't know what motivates the guy. Maybe he'd look upon it as a new challenge.
If we don't at least TRY to bring in a big name before settling for second tier, then your assessment of the state of the program just becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. We'll stay mired in mediocrity.

I have been hearing the same things from alot of alumni some directly associated with basketball. They all saying "We need an LSU and Jones is that man!" Alot of Daddy Dale pushing weight around...this hire would be worse than Trent

I'm thinking Jac Doucet would be one of the last people to get a scoop on anything LSU.
Plus, Joe seems to have no ties with DB or CT.
As with the last 2 basketball hires, it will probably be some one that has not been mentioned as a real possibility as of now.

I just look at it from the perspective of "What does Alleva need to do with this hire?"
His 1st hire was a failure.
A little more than a year ago, he was at odds with Miles, calling him out via statement, which reflected poorly on him as well.
I don't think, at this point, he has the unwavering trust of the LSU fanbase.
So what does he need to to win the fans? The Basketball program is in need of serious re invigoration. Can Johnny Jones bring that? Maybe.
Could Bruce Pearl, Scott Drew, or Tim Floyd? Absolutely. Now, Pearl is naturally eliminated due to his other issues, but I still think Drew/Floyd would be attractive candidates. Floyd is probably attainable, and I feel the amount of negative PR that would come with hiring him would be overruled by the amount of excitement he would immediately bring.
Alleva needs to "win" this hire. And Johnny Jones wouldn't be a PR win. Now, could it turn out to be a "winning hire?" Sure. But there's a lot of risk involved with that, IMO.

Hiring from "within the family" is the dumbest thing I have ever heard, which is why I am shocked at how many schools do it.

Hire Bryce Drew and don't look back.
Dude was born in Baton Rouge.

I think Collis Temple has a very inflated opinion of how much leverage he has. And from my view he's not at all afraid to wield that perceived leverage.
Outside of East Baton Rouge, what has he been able to deliver? Very overrated. Collis Temple, Jr only looks after one man, Collis Temple, Jr

The only within the family success I can remember is from the Bennett family.

Oh absolutely because if this hire goes south, we could be irrelevant in Men's Basketball.

How do you know what the majority of LSU fans want. The majority of fans are not on this rant, they REALLY go to the games.

Programs really don't like the appearance of being turned down. Most of the discussion will be done in private between agents most likely. Before offering, I imagine LSU will know who will take the job or not.
