Good for him

Yep. And a big time job of keeping it where it was after giving up that 1st pitch hit and the lead. With the way his control was early in the year, it would have been easy for him to lose his shite and give up a few more. But he kept it to within 2. Or was it 3? frick, I can’t even remember if we scored 3 or 4 to win it, that’s how crazy it was and how caught up in the emotion I got.
Great job by so many guys of staying in it the whole way and taking it pitch by pitch. Sooo many times teams would have just folded and gone down 1,2,3 in the 9th and played for tomorrow.

That’s great
Been rooting for him since he became a Tiger. Didn’t contribute like I thought he could this year but got the biggest W of the season so far tonight

Nice that he got the win considering half the game thread thought bringing him in was conceding the game.
Such an insane take considering he’s a strikeout specialist and you needed a K when he came in, just left that breaking ball up pitch one. He then K’d the next two guys.

DAMN
After all the excitement of the finish, I lost track of this. GREAT for you Mr. Mayers and thank you for being a Tiger.

A few of us realized it in real time, but there were a lot of fools who didn’t realize that was the ONLY move right there. We had to miss bats, and he’s the guy most capable of missing them. I can’t believe Yeskie called for a 1st pitch slider in that situation, but that wasn’t on Mayers. He was obviously trying to steal a strike thinking they’d be sitting on the fastball, but that was just trying to get a little too cute. If I’m going to lose with a guy on the mound who throws 100, I’m gonna lose on a pitch he throws 100. Oh well.
I posted in the game thread that at least Mayers got his feet wet on that mound in that atmosphere and should help to trust him (and for him to trust himself) if we needed him tomorrow. Well, won’t need him tomorrow now, but I think how he finished was huge for the weekend. He can be used in all kinds of situations that may arise against Coastal.
Our pitching is set up so well for the Finals it almost scares me. Like it’s TOO good. Too good to be true good. It never works out like this. So I expect shenanigans.
