Foster Moreau

I don't remember his rating, but he brings up a slightly different conversation. Between Justin Jeffesrion, Moreau, Cushenberry, and Russell Gage, we've had some really good "last guys in."

I mean, you're right.
He got recruited by powerhouses like Hampton, FIU, LA-Monroe, Miami (OH), Tulane, SMU, Southern Miss and Tenn.

Tennessee wanted him badly after he dominated their camp. He would've gotten plenty more offers but shut it down for LSU.

He was a fast rising star his senior year and ended up a 4* because of it. Those initial small school offers were from early on before people realized his talent.

Yeah this is quite true

We really underused Moreau. Dude was a monster at the combine and is a very good NFL TE as a rookie. He could've been an All-American in this offense I think.

He did move to a 4 star, but highly recruited might be a stretch. LSU and Tennessee were his only P5 offers

He had big schools calling him at the end and shut them down. He was all LSU.

But UT and LSU are both big time programs and both wanted him badly after their camps. That is being highly recruited IMO.

Here is a thread on 2009 about Tyrann

LINK

quote:

In LSU football recruiting news, Tiger Fans are now very happy that Les Miles offered defensive back Tyrann Mathieu a scholarship now that Mathieu jumped from a one-star prospect to a four-star prospect overnight in one of the recruiting services. I cannot recall ever before seeing a player jump from a one-star to a four-star over night.

This team is the Isle of Misfit Toys that has the chance to be a championship team. I do not mean this as a negative. Many of these players play with a chip on their shoulder because they were overlooked. They have something rolling right now. This team can go down in LSU history as the very best. Their talent may not be as much as other teams, but as a unit they play better than any other LSU team in the last 20 years.

Looks like everyone is partially right. He was a relatively obscure 2-3 star recruit until he had a monster summer and senior year. Takeaway is that some of the best college players don’t necessarily start out as heralded 5 star recruits.

Yeah

Hester had offers from LSU, Texas, Oklahoma, and Miami. That was a "who's who" of programs his senior year.

Tyrann Mathieu was a low 4 star, which isnt a low grade but obviously too low for one of the best DBs in college football history. Greedy was pretty low too

Are recruiting Services often wrong on Louisiana players, underrating them? Or do they just downgrade LSU targets to put a damper on any recruiting momentum to prevent little ole small-Market LSU from dominating college football with their NFL Rich home-state Talent?

I think recruiting services can often be wrong on players period. Saquon Barkley was ranked the #13 RB in the country (247sports) behind some people I've never even heard of before. Trying to predict how good a 17 or 18 year kid will be in the future is just difficult, especially in football. I find that basketball rankings are much more accurate because AAU and summer camps allows the best players to play each other more frequently which allows talent evaluators to compares apples apples. Football has 7 on 7 but no true AAU equivalent and thus it is harder to compare players in different leagues. Also, football is more of a team sport where your teammates and the scheme you play in makes a big difference. If you're a HS RB who plays on a team with a bad O-Line and no passing game you're going to have a harder time than a not as talented RB with a great OLine and a great passing game that keeps the defense spread out.

Well, I'm not wrong that he wasn't a highly regarded recruit, but go ahead and keep being a douchebag about it.

If Honey Badger was a 4 star, it came after signing day. We were the only power 5 school to offer him. Before LSU he was deciding between Tulane and Miami of Ohio

Some kids just don’t get to camp also.

Deion Jones (a Butkus finalist) is another one that comes to mind. He committed in December.

This is a flat out untruth. 100% false on every account. Became a 4* before signing and had an offer from LSU and UT, with more schools calling to gauge his interest and he told them he was solid to LSU.
