That was an absolute horrible spot by the ref at the top of the screen. Watkins had the ball at our own 44.5 yard line. They marked him back at the 44. Lane looked pissed on the sideline. Maybe this went into his decision to punt, it was clear the refs were home cooking at wouldn't give a favorable spot on 4th either.

Watkins kept the ball below his stomach the entire time. Defender made a great tackle keeping it that way. The play was lost on the catch.

Go analyze the play before that and tell me what the hell kind of play call that was to lose yards. It looked like we were moving the ball to the right hash mark for a field goal

Watkins has to add 15 pounds of muscle in the offseason.

Jarvis would have taken that DB for a ride

I haven’t watched the replay, but in real time, I thought it was a lot closer to a 1st down. Either he got it or was a half yard short. It wound up being a long 1, and I think that definitely played into Lane’s decision to punt. Half a yard, I think he 100% goes for it with a Leavett sneak or direct snap to Jones. And we’re getting either one of those. Probably would have still gotten it from where we were anyway, though. We’ll never know.

The ball and his stomach literally fell simultaneously on the 44.5 yard line. The bottom line ref should have called the spot, not the top line ref who was blinded.

Agree completely. The 2 plays after our first down were really bad play calls that seemed like the best case scenario was 1 yard gains! Kentucky was giving our receivers 7-10 yard cushions all night. I don’t know why we didn’t try something like we did on 3rd down: a quick throw to the slot receiver. Either way, 2 really bad play calls!
