After having to listen to LSU baseball via the radio I have noticed that the radio announcer often refers to Nick Webre as Webb. I'm not sure, but thought I heard the same on one of the recent tv broadcasts. Why can't they simply pronounce the young man's name in whole as it should be? You don't hear 'em refer to Zach Watson as Watt, do you?
Just saying, if it were my son, I'd want my name pronounced the correct way.

Pretty sure LSU gives the tv and radio crews a pronunciation guide so I'd be surprised if they're saying it wrong. It's on the website for football and men's/women's bball but isn't for baseball for some reason.

Dude/dudette... You should do some research before starting stupid threads like this. They pronounce his last name like "web" because that's how his last name is pronounced....

There IS a reason they pronounce it that way and have pronounced it that way from the beginning of the season if you have kept up with LSU baseball....

Edit: There was once an issue on how Nick Stavinoha's last name was mispronounced, but there hasn't been an issue since.

Edit 2:

This is as dumb as it sounds.

Well he/she came in here thinking he/she was 100% right, but we live in Louisiana.... You cant just look at a name and expect it to sound how you think it will. You need to actually look it up and not sound like you know everything....

I am so sorry to have offended you all with my naivety. My intent was not to come across as a know-it-all like Ryan3232 is suggesting, but to maybe gain some insight on why this young man was being referred to as Webb. Anyone that is familiar with St. James Parish will concur that Webre is two-syllable in our neck of the woods. Sounds like, WEBB-UR. I guess you're never too old to learn something new. Obviously, for reasons unknown to me, this young man's family has chosen to reduce the name to one-syllable.
One can never fail in an attempt to gain knowledge from this board, as this posting has proven. Thanks to all of you who responded in a constructive way. And to Ryan3232 I cannot thank you enough for the ridicule that you have bestowed upon me. It has made me a stronger person.

I thought it should have been Weber at first too. But after the first weekend I figured out the commentary had the correct pronunciation.

It’s just the same as Alex Edward. Looking at that name, it should be clear how it’s pronounced. But it takes a keen eye to realize it is actually Alec Edwards.

My first thought was that the announcers were simply calling him Webb for short much, like fellow teammates would do once they all were a little more familiar with each other. In line with that thinking, I only stressed that if it were my son and my name, I would want it to be pronounced the way we do.
Again, I apologize for my naivety. It isn't my first mistake and it certainly will not be my last.

First off, you are retard for starting this thread. Secondly, if you don't have thick skin on a sports message board, then you probably shouldn't be on here.

There's derivations in pronunciation of names throughout history. From country to country, towns, cities even across parish lines. Letters get dropped or added as do pronunciations for whatever reasons. There is no right and wrong. Whatever the family says is how it's said. Period. I can't believe an adult isnt aware of this.

It semi annoys me how most commentators pronounce our Louisiana names. They tend to put much emphasis on the last syllable.

For example: Jared Poche. They say pohSHAY.
My last name would be shredded to pieces by everyone. It already does.

I know a family with the last name of Fabre and it’s pronounced Fab. Can’t always look at the spelling for pronunciation.
