I was at the game, great game, great time and I wish we had a coach with Dale's energy again.

There's no three-point line.
I'm pretty sure you were just joking, but for those that might think you were being serious....the three point line was added to college basketball following the 1985-86 season. So yes, the game against Memphis State would not have had the three point line.

I remember the game when Duke was #1 in the country. They had Laitner, we had Shaq. The game was live on CBS. CBS stopped showing the student section on TV because it was so out of control.

All these remembrances of Tiger hoops greatness have me a little melancholy. The college game as a whole has been degraded by players leaving early and the absence of enthusiasm surrounding our program is obvious. On the plus side, the fan base showed that it can begin to rally around good teams in the good Brady years and the one good TJ year, so I am sure that sustained success would bring the crowds back. But my goodness for those of who remember the young man from Plain Dealing beating Memphis State, Blanton doing the "Ricky Shuffle," CJ from the corner to beat Vandy, and the absolute madness in the student section against UNLV, Duke, and the rest ...

Yeah, it seems that some on here may not be aware of that magical run in '86. Not sure if some were joking.

I was at that game with my dad and we were sitting with a coworker of his and his wife. They both graduated from Memphis and the whole time leading up to the game all we heard was how great that Memphis team was and how LSU really didn't stand a chance. They were in utter shock that LSU somehow pulled it off. It was a great day.

Help me with the MSU lineup:
C - William Bedford
F - Baskerville Holmes (remember he banked in a 35 footer at the halftime buzzer)
G - Andre Turner
G - Vincent Askew
F - ?
It was not Keith Lee, he had left MSU the year before. Memphis State had a good run for a couple of years.

That was a little before my time but I got to see Chris Jackson, Stanley, Shaq, Vernel etc. We camped out for an entire week before the Duke game with Laettner, Hurley, Hill.
It's amazing how LSU has changed. Football is kicking arse and basketball...isnt.

I don't really remember that game although my dad was probably there with my Uncle but I must not have gone of course I would only have been 7 at the time.......Did it seem like the Memphis St coach shooed Dale off when he went over for a hand shake at 37 sec in the vid? If so why?

man that the way LSU rolled in the 80's
I feel for ya'll who "think" the good seasons in the 2000's were like that, cause your clueless
Love me some Dale Brown, what a great time to be a LSU basketball fan

Awesome moment that still gives me chills, but probably not the fairest comparison - i.e. NCAA tournament game at home against one of the best teams (at the time) in recent memory.

Hard to believe we ran off Daddy Dale.
Hard to believe the Kentucky game in 1994 actually happened.

believe me when i say the pmac used to rock, esp in the days of rudy macklin, dwayne scales, ethan martin, the cookie man and down the line with chris jackson, shaq, etc, etc. (i know i'm missing some guys, sorry). i used to take my dad (from kentucky and big blue fan) to watch lsu play kentucky (with the twin towers, turpin and bowie) and we kicked their arse back to lexington. daham, we have fallen on bad times. it will take good teams on a sustained basis with at least a chance to win big games but the magic will definately come back if we can do that. i know lsu is a football school but lsu lovers can and will get back into roundball if they just have the product to cheer for.
i miss daddy dale and have forgiven him for the stupid thing he did. he paid the medical expenses for a recruits mother and he turned on us; talk about an ingrate. i believe dale paid the expenses out of his own pocket too (not sure). oh well, there have been a hell of a lot of exciting moments with lsu basketball in the past and i haven't even mentioned the pistol and guys before him.

I was there - couldn't talk for two days because I screamed so much during the game. Had a class with Anthony Wilson that season and he always had a smile on his face - was having the time of his life. The entire Dale Brown era was great fun - I rarely missed a game.

I had some dealing with Dana after his NCAA mess and everytime we talked he bitched about THIS game for 5 minutes
said they woulda made the final four again if they hadn't had to play LSU at LSU- He's probably right, that team was loaded

I was at the PMAC for the LSU-Memphis game. I wish I could say I saw Wilson's shot, but the game was so intense, I was staring at the ground for the last possession. We cheered for a solid 10-15 minutes after the game hugging and high fiving random people. Between this game, and the Purdue double OT win a couple of days before, I didn't think my voice or heart would make it.
The great thing about Dale Brown which separated him from Brady, was that instead of building great teams, he built a great program. Making the NCAA tourney every year was a given. Brady could recruit, but he'd drive off and alienate players just as quickly. Dale loved his players and they loved him back.
From 1979 to about 1993, LSU basketball was nearly on par with football, if not the flagship program on campus. Though TJ has had a few down years, I do believe he's on the right track in building a program.
