re: It wasn't a vanilla game plan.

For anyone that thinks there is never any variation in the gameplan, just look at the difference between the gameplans from before the Bama game last year, and then after. We went from being an offense that was almost totally balanced in number of plays, with at least 1/3 of our yards coming through the air, to a very run-heavy attack when JJ took over as the starter. Not only did the Tigers tend to run more pass plays, but they were taking more play action shots down the field with Lee as the starter. Add this to earlier evidence from 2005-2007, and you see that Miles prefered a balanced attack when he felt he could trust his QB.
All that said, this was Mett's first game, and it was against a weak non-conference opponent. Miles always plays very close to the vest against these teams. Hell, Matt Flynn's first game in 07 was against State, and we ran Power I for almost the entire game. The next week against VA Tech, Miles unleashed the offense, and they left the Hokie D smoldering in runis. I don't know if we can expect that level of performance from Mett yet, but I am betting we will see more play actions, and more balance by the Auburn game.

I think that a lot of people dont pay attention to Les Miles era. For one you have to have a running game, all teams do, and over the years Coach has build us a nice running game. Now, if you would have been paying attention, you would have noticed that when we had a qb who could throw, J. Russell and M.Flynn, we threw the ball, we were balanced. We have a dominate run game and as history shows, you can get to the Championship with that, but history also shows that you need to run and throw to win the Championship. Coach Miles was scared to throw the ball. He now has a qb that he can trust not to lose the game.In time you will see that.

I'm tired of proving we can win without offense.
Please, for the fans, open it up for like 2 plays or something. We'll survive.

The arrogance of fans the act as if Miles doesn't know what he's doing is baffling to me.
The only ones that are so wrapped up in criticizing him and will do nothing but Mitch and complain about him are so wrapped up with Saban, it's sickening.
They'll never come out and admit it, but it's the obvious truth.
Most of you are just so mad that this offense is boring and it's not what YOU want. Selfish, Bama-sessed cowards.

I guess we just have to understand that under Miles LSU will always have a boring offense. Except in 2007 when the offense was opened up and we won a NC.

We had 500 yards total offense, you idiots.

What do you mean, "open it up" exactly? We went downfield and scored threw 2 td passes(though 1 was called back). When you say "open it up" do you actually mean flea-flicker type trickeration bullshite? Are you just intellectually dishonest? Or fricking goddman stupid?
Our QB threw the ball 26 fricking times despite mising time with an injury and throttling back in the 4th quarter. Considering it was his 1st start, I think we threw the ball a ton.
We also threw to 7-8 receivers, which is something we haven't done in years, getting that many people involved in the passing game.
We took advantage of Mett's arm strength by stretching the field horizontally. Not only did that set up some pump and gos, but opened up space for our RBs. Speaking of which, we had 2 rush for over 100 yards each on about 10 carries.
Our fricking fulllback had 4 carries and a touchdown.
Everybody who says "typical Les Miles" is kinda stupid. This was a different kind of gameplan than I can ever remember seeing under Miles. And it's going to change game to game, while keeping the same philosophy of getting the ball to our playmakers while trying to limit turnovers. A philosophy that God Almighty Nick Saban himself has used on the way to 3 NCs.
We have some of the most unsophisticated, butt fricking stupid fans in all of college football.

In 2007, the offense had the most rushing attempts for a season than any other in the Miles era. Even more than last year.
(2007-612 rushing attempts, 2011-591 rushing attempts)

He is probably talking about the fact why did we not work on every aspect of the passing game in real time instead of just practice? You think Mett has all that down pat already?????? and needs no reps??????
WHere did you see posts, gos/streaks,corners, fades to the EZ etc? ins? outs?
crossing routes? other than one?
we did throw a ton of bubble screens a few slants, a sluggo and a stop n go if i recall and maybe some comebacks/curls.
that is all people are saying. sorry you cannot grasp that. If we are going to wait to use things when we really need them we had best hope we can do it then under fire. games are not practice.
hey that's great. stretch horizontally to get guys out of the box from north-south runs and make them defend sideline to sideline. now we need to work on vertical stretches because if good teams who can play man squat on our short game we had best be able to run or then go deep. think against Bama what we will face.

lol wut? Miles does what he wants. he will not do everything nor work on everything. in a nutshell the majority of plays were runs and short passes(extended runs anyone???). That is MILESBALL. That is all people are saying. basically almost a 2 to 1 ratio on run/pass? that is milesball. Hey as long as he keeps winning though when it matters right?

and plenty probably have more vast knowledge not only in playing but of X's and O's than you and plenty others so stop generalizing when you do not have a clue as to what each person here actually knows.

U'll are all dreaming if u think Les will approve a vertical passing game. Pound the rock or throw the 3 yard screen.

I know that. But the offense was still entertaining to watch. Never knew where the ball was going and seemed like we scored every drive.
But I'm not knocking this years offense either. Like someone said, 2007 started off conservative too. As long as we score points it's all good. And at least I'm honest enough to admit I don't know a lot of Xs and Os so an offense could be different but still look the same to me.

A top 5-10 team EVERY YEAR is just not good enough for some of our fans. Its embarrassing.
Its one thing to say, man I wish we would have thrown a couple more times or whatever, but to come out and bitch about thats why were gonna lose and cant beat bama this way and our offense sucks after the FIRST game and start for Mett is just fricking pathetic.
Oh and didnt we beat bama last year in Tuscaloosa? arent we something like 3-3 against them the last 6 games?
We destroy Oregon, Tex A&M, VT and all the other OOC big games we play. But when we look bad against Bama for 1 game, we have no chance of ever winning again

we did it last year(with both QB's) early on and midway through ......it actually started in the cotton bowl 2010......that was the year Miles took the reins away from crowturd and you stopped seeing all those formations and passes crowturd liked to call. you could see the difference that whole year(2010) compared to 07, 08 and 09. we went to mainly runs and passes miles wanted to see.
Miles will do it when he wants to do it in real time situations. Once teams squat on the short throws with man coverage and no safety help and try to load the box we will have to. especially against teams like Bama.
now that opens up big play possibilities with our receivers if he can get leverage or get a step on the DB.....but it works both ways....
EDITED: we may not have thrown much last year but we did take our deep shots. hopefully we do not wait until the last minute to do it this year.

The gameplan that has us 3-3 against a team that good? Yeah, I'm comfortable with it.
Don't forget that we played 5 games against Bama with two special needs QBs. It's amazing that Saban is supposed to be the best coach ever, but last time they played in Tiger Stadium he got completely undressed by Jordan Jefferson and Jarrett Lee.
