Isn't This a Spread Formation?

this play was a designed quarterback draw and BH got about 5 yards on it
it seems like we line up like this a lot except we hardly ever throw off it

it is, and imo, that's the way they should line up, 99.9% of the time. it doesn't make sense, for Brandon harris to take snaps under center, imo.

Both WR on strong side run 9 routes and the TE run a 1 route (down n out). Key off the free safety. If he jumps on the TE the middle WR should be open on the quick seam.

just seeing this picture makes me really wish we'd do it more. LF7 has shown some good vision and cutback ability, so I feel like we could run out of it quite effectively, not to mention the short passes to people like Quinn.

Fake the handoff and the linebackers can't cover the slot man. It's man on man up top and 100% chance someone is open if the routes are run correctly.

IMO, lining up in the spread formation %99.9 of the time is a bad idea. I understand that most of you are unhappy with the performance of our offense and so am I, but the spread is not the answer. If you think our o-line has difficulty blocking now, they don't stand a chance in the spread.

I can understand that, I just don't understand why they continue to recruit spread Qb's. Haden Rettig would have been a perfect fit, but he was told the offense was going a different direction. My concern with Harris playing under center, is that he never did it in HS, so imo, that's something he should be doing later (after he get's experience), and not on the road vs an SEC team. I believe it was his first snap of the game, that was bobbled, and i'm sure it will happen again. We've seen Jennings fumble the ball as well. The offense is pretty "bland", but it can work, just look at last season, but the coaches have to adjust to the players, especially when you have two very young Qb's. Jmo, but LSU should watch film of the seahawks, and adjust to what they are doing, with Wilson.

Now that's a legitimate question. IMO, most people believe a dual threat QB = Spread. I on the other-hand believe a dual threat QB eg. Matt Mauk, can be very successful in a pro-style offense. I do not believe we would have won the NC in 2003 if we ran the "spread" with Matt or if Matt wasn't a very capable runner. Cam and Les must do a better job developing the O-line and finding that mix of run and pass that will take advantage of BH's strengths.

The spread option is unpredictable, spreads the defense, helping the O-line, creates man to man mismatches and always leaves one or two offensive threats uncovered. It gives an O the tactical advantage as we have seen with State and Auburn and will see three more times this year.
It is the answer for the SEC West's winning teams now and going forward. It gives the offense the upper hand by spreading the field sideline to sideline and opening up quick seam passes or read option runs.
Harris was the best in the nation at running the Auburn style offense in HS and Malzahn's #1 choice for QB before Marshall ever played at Auburn. He scored 1/3 of the offensive TDs in his senior yr from the spread option.
The QB has to be in the shotgun to read the offense, the defense, and to be a legitimate threat himself. He has to have the control of the play on the field, and be able to up the tempo after a successful play.
NFL: Russell Wilson used the read option play action pass on Monday night to win the game against the Redskins. They stole the play from Auburn.

Wait.. Our OL will not have a chance in the spread but lining up in a bunch to block 10 is ok?

And usually it's always a numbers game. THere's 6 in the box against your 5 lineman and RB. Why in the world wouldn't you throw a quick screen to Quinn right there out in space?

We need to do it more, but Harris needs to learn how to play QB under center too.
As frustrated as I am with clock management and not playing Fournette more, I do realize a lot of the vanilla offense is due to youth. I think Miles changed after what happened to Lee early on.

Was Florida State a Spread team last year? Oregon has a loss while only scoring 24pts. The spread didn't seem to trouble MSU last week. Didn't Ole Miss only have 10 pts entering the 4th quarter last weak?

Have you not watched our qb's throw? One throws over the wr's head (3 complete balls out of 15 tries) another skips balls into the grownd and completes less than 50%.
I'm curious why people think we should throw more when we struggle to complete A pass.
I boils down to, it's not the coaching. the plays are being called. these kids aren't able to make the play at this point in their career.
