don't know how anyone can expect to win a National title.

I am a very optimistic person but considering...

1. First year QB
2. SEC schedule
3. Teams will be gunning for us

I don't think it is something we should expect. I only expect to contend.
You put into words what I was thinking. I've said this before and I'll say it again winning a national title is a huge feat. Last year proved that. We had an amazing, brilliant season and the best chance to win it all in our backyard and yet we ended up what seemed like miles from our goal at the end of the the game on 1/9. Years like '11 (even w/o an NC) don't come around very often and while I'm not saying we won't win it all this year it still will be very huge challenge. Good fortune has to come our way in addition to being exceptionally good. I would be disappointed but not in any way shocked if we lose a couple games this year and not even make it to the NC game.

whats your definition of airing it out?

I've been watching LSU for 30 years and we've never been an "air it out" team. why would people expect to see it now?

we're not the f'n Houston Cougars

I really don't get this much more favorable SEC schedule crap though. We add SC and A&M. Sure we get Bama at home(home field has never meant much in that series). Arky, Fla, A&M on the road. Yeh I am not really buying the much more favorable SEC schedule.

Bama is the only team I see that potentially gives us problems. Arky lost Petrino. Florida is still rebuilding. While SC and A&M have good teams, our depth will take over in the 2nd half if our talent doesnt in the 1st.

Definitely. We are deep but not at QB. If mett gets hurt we have absolutely no experience at QB.

I agree with you, but throwing 20 to 25 times per game is possible. That was the case when we had competent qbs like JR and MF. I am very confident that we won't see numbers like ..... 4-16 30yds vs a team similar to McNeese.

plus, i have concerns about our passing attack. yes, mett throws a better ball and seems to have better "pocket pressence". but we just don't know if our wr's can get open. obj was great last yr. but rr was taking the heat off. and it seems we couldn't (didn't, whatever) have the short passing game we did when flynn was qb. the slant seemed not to exist when we needed it. i also have concerns about our ol in pass blocking. yes, those beefy mountains, along with a bulldozer at fb and great te blocking, will open holes for our stable of rb's. but my feeling last yr was that our qb's needed more time to make their reads. everybody blames it on jj and jl not wanting to take a hit; maybe that's partly true but i still have concerns that it wasn't completely true. it is difficult to have an ol that excells in both run blocking and pass blocking.

JR and MF threw 30 - 35 times a game.....and even had a few games with 40+ passes.

30+ passes & 250+ yds a game.

You tell me. That seems to be the consensus since mett is the QB. Oh and last 30 years doesn't really have anything to do with it...guess you don't remember Hodson and Davey. Our head coach will never allow for the offense to be wide open.

Last year after the West Virginia game I expected to go undefeated and win the NC. But this is the first time preseason I fully expect to go 14-0.

I would love to have the same offense as last year but have more ability to hurt teams with play action. I think that is what we will see.

I don't ever EXPECT to win the MNC. We play in the toughest conference in American against some of the best teams. While I like our chances, "any given Saturday", all things are possible. But, God how I pray we get there!

That was my whole point. So Les may allow Mett to throw atleast 20-25 times per game. Les is hopefully done babysitting and now we can go back to having a complete football team.

While our WRs may struggle early, somebody will step up to help take the pressure off OBJ.

As for the OL, I somewhat agree. Hurst struggled against speed rushers at times last season. Lets hope with another year under his belt he wont have as much trouble. I think we will be much improved inside. Lonergan had some health problems last year but he seems to be fine now. Collins and Wilford provide a lot of size at guard. Plus we will have Josh D. coming off the bench. We should have no problem with any of the big SEC DTs this year.

BTW, any reason Collins is being put at guard instead of tackle? I think our line would be better if we put him at RT and Hurst at guard.

Pretty much this. Some years I hope to go 11-2, some years I think we have a great shot at the NC, but never do I "expect" a NC.

That said, I'm the most optimistic about a NC this year than any, although I did expect great things in 2006 and 2007.

I don't think the SEC schedule is that much more favorable either.

I stated our overall schedule is less challenging considering we don't have a powerhouse like Oregon or a Geno Smith lead West Virginia.

It being a night game should make a difference and the outcome of 1/9 should also play to our advantage.
