Is there any reason why one plays left or right cornerback?

Is it something physical, like left or right handed, something scehmatic like strong or weak sides? If so, please explain. In other words, is there any reason why Tyrann can't play on the left or why Claiborne is better suited to playing that side than Peterson, etc.?

The better CB defends the better receiver.

I was more concerned with or DB's lack of abilility to turn and locate the ball when in the air. Look at the scoring play in the end zone. Brandon Taylor is in position to make a play he never looked to locate the ball.

that works for me; let's try matthieu for claiborne.

The better cover corner (better player in space) tends to play the field CB position; that is, when the offense is on the left hashmark, the field CB will be playing the WR on the wide side of the field where there is more room for the WR to run his route.
The boundary CB (generally a more physical corner, but not as good of a cover guy) plays the short side of the field where there is less room for the WR to run his route.

i think lacajun is concerned with locating the ball. lol.
i think that is a concern to some degree. i am not sure mo clai is tough enough to hold down that spot. think about marquis maze guarded by mo clai. i don't like our chances right now. mathieu was impressive. his toughness reminded me of laron landry as a freshmen. just flying around making plays. really laying some good hits. he also showed good awareness with play recognition.

Not every team designates a BC or a FC.
And in man situations, it doesn't really matter whether you are called the RC or LC; you are going to be on the best WR if you are the best cover guy.
