Such is LSU football.

away team in AL game has statistically done better for decades

Since 1982:

LSU is 12-7 in Tuscaloosa and Birmingham
LSU is 4-15-1 in BR and NOLA

You can almost say LSU plays 5 SEC 'home' games a year in odd numbered years.

Maybe. Used to be highly dependent on Louisiana High school football talent production

That mold has been broken. We now have the analysts and offensive scheme to win without overwhelming opponents with talent. We now can recruit nationally.

We shall see what Coach O does. We have now recruited and reloaded the line of scrimmage up to top tier standards (2019 line of scrimmage talent was very good not great).

Can we reload the QB room with the top QBs in the country. We are much better now than at anytime in the last 5 or 6 years.

CAn we reload our coaching staff year after year like Bama does.

I think the answer is yes.

It can't be a coincidence that LSU football peaks every 4 years since 2003.

2003 (13-1) Won SEC Won NC
2007 (12-2) Won SEC Won NC
2011 (13-1) Won SEC lost NC
*2015 (9-3) only exception, but still a great year by Fournette
2019 (15-0) Won SEC Won NC

What causes this? Has recruiting followed a similar cycle?

In the early part of the century, it was mainly the result of our schedule. We played at Auburn, at Florida, at Arkansas, and then one other road game during the even years. The screw jobs at Auburn in 2004 and 2006 sealed our fate those seasons. Either Auburn or Arkansas would represent the West during the even years, and we would represent the West when we got those teams at home during the odd years.

Then the last 10 years, we only won the SEC when we were good enough to beat Bama.

Yep finished 9-3, opener against McNeese was canceled after maybe five plays

the play before the game was cancelled had donte jackson go in motion (on offense) and catch a swing/screen pass. The play was blown dead for a false start i believe

I was so excited to see that

The natural cycle of recruits developing & maturing. With the early out, makes it tough to go back to back. You can be in the group of best teams, but everything has to come together for a NC.

We are always going to have more success on odd years due to our SEC schedule. Florida, aTm, Arkansas, Auburn at home, @ Alabama (where we play better for some reason), and the Mississippi schools have not been good for awhile making those road games much easier to win
This is the answer. Since Saban arrived in 2000, LSU made it to the SECCG 6 out of 10 odd-years (5 out of 6 from 2000-2011), but has never appeared in a SECCG in an even-year.
