Is there a defensive scheme that the LSU offense hasn’t seen?

Curious...What could Clemson possibly do to confuse Burrow?

National media will find a quirky thing Clemson does to talk about. Just like OU with their “disguising” defense.

First & foremost, there is not a defensive scheme to stop this offense. Auburn only slowed the team down on the scoreboard. Better offensive execution & play calling in the redzone & that game would have been just like the others.
Secondly, Brent Venables has a serious dilemma on his hands. He has a very heavy pressure, blitz oriented defensive scheme. Our new offensive scheme thrives on one on one matchups & when you blitz, you put all your defenders on islands. Joe just has to pick his favorite matchup on each play & exploit it.
If Venables goes his normal route, the big plays will come fast & furious. If he deviates & plays more zone, Burrow will just slowly shred the defense apart.

I would say I think Venebles is more high risk/high reward than any other defensive coordinator we’ve seen. He really thrives on anticipating offensive play calls I think and just has a feel for what to call better than anybody. He knows how to make quarterbacks hesitate and question what they are seeing. Olinemen as well.

You must have missed the OSU game last night. Ohio State dictated the game, particularly in the first half. Just floundered in the red zone and settled for FGs. With a healthy Dobbins, we’re playing OSU on Jan 13th.

Clemson blitzes and they also put a spy on the running back to man up on him as soon as he crosses the line to stop the check down dump off pass. The issue here is that when they blitz AND put a man on the running back to prevent the quick dump off pass, they leave their corners on an island and the slot receiver being covered man up by either a safety or a linebacker.
Our receivers can beat this one on one man coverage. I think that we will use more than one short route receiver to give an additional dump off man so that joe can have multiple hot reads to choose from.

Does it matter?
And I mean this seriously. Except for blocking, the 'system' accounts for whatever they do.
Sometimes they read leverage, sometimes they read personnel matchups, sometimes they read 2-steps, sometimes they read a particular position (e.g. RPO). And sometimes they just read a safety and whichever way he goes Burrow throws to the other side and says 'go get it'.
Sometimes all those reads might be in one play. Read leverage pre-snap, change progression based on first 2 steps, check safety, see how the clearout is going, and throw to our best guy on their worst with the right leverage. All in 3.2 seconds.
The scheme might matter... but only for a minority of the plays.
