I hate to break it to you, but the only two sports (thus the only two that truly matter) that pay the bills nationally are football and men's basketball.

There are individual schools that make money in all the other minor sports, but if each sport had to sustain itself financially, only the two majors would be able to field enough schools operating at a profit to have national competition.

This is where the welfare mentality sets in. Speaking of that, Tom Cruise makes $20+ million per movie. Where's my cut of his earnings?

You reinforce my point . Does football and men's basketball need all the other minor sports to rake in their millions?

The answer is no. I'm not entitled to Tom Cruise's cash, and all the minor sports shouldn't be entitled to the revenue producing sports cash either.

The minor sports date back to the days when there wasn’t such big money in football and basketball… when the athletic departments were there to provide a complete program…

And the point of that is??????

If a sport can't SUPPORT ITSELF enough nationwide to have legitimate competition, it should stay relegated to the club level. THAT was the intention of collegiate sports in the beginning.

The sports that are able to generate enough revenue to compete on a national scale should be allowed to, without the burden of carrying the sports that don't generate sufficient interest to be "big time" sports.

When we don't want to be fair like that, I start looking for my cut of Tom's royalties/fees, and hell, I deserve a slice of Elon Musk's empire also while we're at it.
