I'm guessing here that your analysis is tainted by your dislike for Les Miles. Go ahead. Just try to admit to yourself that you don't really KNOW.

I will gladly admit it. I don't think he is an excellent football coach. I also have the ability to conclude what I want. It's interesting to see this coming from the guy who thinks he knows definitively that Miles turned it down. Surely, you have no biases in this discussion.

Talent that just sort of drifted to Baton Rouge on a whim without any impetus from Les Miles?
Interesting point to say the least.

Why are you brushing aside the fact that I credited Miles for not fricking up recruiting and hiring/keeping a great recruiter in Frank Wilson? Additionally, why are you implying that Saban didn't recruit well, or that the talent that Miles had from 2005-2007 was not directly attributable to Saban? Are you intentionally being obtuse?

quote:

Next you will be assuring me that he isn't a good X's and O's coach without ever having been in a team meeting to know if you are correct. Amitite?

Well, is he? I have eyes. Can I not make my own surface-level judgments about whether or not someone is a good X's and O's guy? Were the Eagles in team meetings at Oregon before they hired Chip Kelly? Does one have to show proof of attendance at a team meeting before opining about a coach's playcalling prowess? Do you not realize this is a sports message board you're posting on?

It's pretty clear that Miles is not known for any specific quality. He doesn't have a trade. When Philadelphia hired Chip Kelly, they knew what they were getting. When San Francisco hired Jim Harbaugh, they knew what they were getting. The reality is that Miles doesn't have any type of specialty or area of focus in which he's known as an elite coach. His background is OL. He will, for the first time this year, put an offensive lineman in the first round of the NFL draft. At LSU. In a decade.

Let me guess, next you are going to persuade me that he's a good QB developer?

I tell you boys what. If we did lose our DC and didn't hire somebody really good. You'll see how over paid Les is in about 1 season after we go 4-8.

Did I write that? Where are you getting this crap? But I want to point out that Saban didn't start with an empty cupboard either.

OK but seeing and understanding what you see aren't the same thing.

Of course you can make judgements based upon not having a clue. It's done all the time especially around here. But before you claim any credibilty, I'd like to see some qualifications for that opinion.

Being a sports message board is an excuse for writing stupid thing? QED.

Apparently people that know way more than you or I about what constitute a good head football coach's qualities seem to have discovered qualities that you missed. Imagine that!

And yet he has won a lot of games, and a few championships. He's won more than Kelly and Harbaugh seems to be slipping, so maybe you need a different example.

Yes. Good for him because he has placed no OL before this in the NFL?

Since you brought up the NFL first round as a way of proving a point, I'll take the cheap way out and answer this last by mentioning that I recall an LSU QB going first once upon a time.

OOOPS

That would be the worst season in Miles' entire coaching career and is not likely to occur.

If he's being paid the same amount as bum arse coaches with no crystal (let alone divisional crowns) like Sumlin and Freeze, he's severely underpaid. We're getting a good bargain.

End of story.

No since in arguing with gray dumazz. Without a doubt the single most mentally challenged poster in the history of TD. A brick wall....period.
